The Pema by Realm
"We went as two couples and stayed at the Pema the same evening as we landed. Unfortunately, there was no table available for us for dinner. We spoke to our agent and we were then given the best table in the place (which was being used until that very time by the great and the good). Not only that, we were looked after by Geeta, their F&B manager, who was super excellent and served us with the most delicious food over the two days we were there. The Pema also offers a lovely gift box with some nice goodies in it. The room is very clean and neat, with too quality furnishings. The staff are very nice and polite. We really enjoyed our stay at the Pema. I also found a copy of a very useful book at the hotel that I have put up photos of."

"The service is amazing . 1/ we checked in just before dinner time and they prepared KIRA local cloth and helped us to dress up to watch the culture Bhutan performance 2/ staff Noticed my friend is not feeling well at dinner and they asked the chief to get her a local congee. Accoridng to the staff; this is what a mom will cook when the kid is sick in Bhutan . And they didn’t charge her dinner cost at all . 3/ find it interesting to l herbal water at room , which can increase happiness"

"This hotel is reasonably priced centrally located hotel. Many attractations and city center are within walking distance. That's important because city sleeps early in evenings so you have less time to roam around. Plus no uber, tuk tuk etc . We could walk around without depending on local taxi . Hotel is extremely neat and clean. Our suite was very spacious with large open terrace. Toiletaries were provided. Very polite and kind staff including at reception. Housekeeping was prompt and helpful. Heat mode in our AC wasnt working and they promptly provided room heater. Highlight was the restaurant staff and the chefs ( om bahadur other chefs) during our stay. There was no buffet because of low occupancy but staff went out of the way to ensure we had a wide spread of our choice for each dinner. They managed to cook our "wish list" of bhutanese cuisines entirely in 3 dinners that we had there. They even sourced local buttermilk for us. Dishes were amazing. Pumpkin jaju, ema datsi, coconut pudding not to be missed. Good wifi which was rare in other bhutan hotels"
Zhiwaling Ascent
"To start with the positive, the rooms are beautiful and most of the employees of the place very friendly and helpful. However, the one point which made the entire stay unenjoyable in the end and created a very bitter taste was how they ripped us off with the dinner charges. First, they never mentioned the price of the dinner to us and their menus consisted just of a set menu with no prices whatsoever (which made us believe that the dinner was included as it was the case for other hotels in Bhutan). The drinks menu had prices which was clear and easy to handle and we got charged our drinks amount fair and square upon checkout. After we have checked out and left the hotel long time ago, our tour operator all of a sudden informed us that the Zhiwa Ling reached out to them with an insanely overpriced bill for missed dinner payments - around 50 USD per person per dinner. At this point, we were willing to pay but not that much. Not only was the food at best mediocre, also my fiance who had problems with her stomach didn't order all of the courses on the pre set menu. When notifying the hotel manager of the short coming of not mentioning the prices beforehand, they agreed that they made the mistake but sticked to their narrative of us having to pay anyway. When we pointed out that we didn't have all of the 4 courses in all dinners, they came up with the ridiculous excuse that only the main is to be paid (since that was the only course we both had during both dinners) as the other courses are coming for free next to it. Bottom line, just inacceptable managerial behavior which just left us feeling ripped off and not at all appreciated. For the future travelers, please just order starter, soup and dessert as they should be for free and skip the main which is in no way worth 50 USD. We also spoke to a hotel manager of a different luxury hotel in Paro who confirmed that the costs for food are basically near 0 in Bhutan."

"We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is lovely and the service friendly. The rooms are very spacious. Unfortunately it is in a noisy section of the city and we sleep poorly due to surround Karaoke and people yelling /singing after a night of partying."

Every detail was worked out before arrival. The rooms were new, clean, and very comfortable. The breakfast and dinner buffets were great. The staff was friendly and was ready to help at all times. We loved our stay at Bhutan Tours!"

If you stay under the restaurant (3rd floor) the noise starts early and goes late at night. Could be simply fixed with pad under the chairs (wood on wood) but no common sense. 5. No consideration for the noise from other "guests" as the kitchen should not be open past a certain hour for drinking and curousing."
