"The hot water wasn't working properly, and the worst part is that the owner knew it and didn't try to fix it beforehand. When we complained, the only solution she offered was to cancel the second night and refund us for that night—disgraceful. It's frankly inconvenient having to wait half an hour or even half an hour for the water to come out lukewarm and then showering like that in the freezing cold."

"Service: Extremely attentive. Perhaps because there weren't many Asians or because my name is unusual in English, the staff greeted me by name the next morning at breakfast. Facilities: Basically adequate, quite acceptable for a 200-year-old building undergoing renovation, though not comparable to modern 5-star facilities. Environment: It felt like living in a palace, with gardens to explore freely and magnificent public areas. While you'd normally visit a palace and only have to follow a route, here you could explore and go anywhere."

"The hotel is located in the village of Colares: the town center is about 2 km from the hotel and offers several restaurants and a good Continente supermarket. It's an excellent starting point for those wishing to visit Sintra, Cascais, Estori, Cabo de Rocal, or the nearby beaches. It has private parking, but spaces are limited. The property is very beautiful, and its highlights are certainly the common room with billiards and a piano, the terrace, and the charming garden where you can relax. The room overall, unfortunately, is inferior to the rest of the hotel: dated and slightly kitsch furnishings (the bedside table was literally a tree trunk that barely supported the lamp, so you couldn't even put your phone down...) and the bathroom absolutely needs updating, especially the old fixtures and the dangerous shower with a sinking showerhead. However, the cleanliness and quality of sleep were good, with a comfortable bed and no noise (the room overlooked the garden). The breakfast was good and plentiful, with everything you need, from sweet to savory. A positive note goes to the staff: they were all very friendly and kind. Overall, good value for money considering the area, and recommended for those traveling by car."

"Fantastic experience! The house is spacious, well-equipped, with a beautiful view of the valley; the terrace is a real bonus. The Moby Dick team prepared breakfasts, a picnic on the beach, and a typical Portuguese dinner for us. The beaches are nearby, ideal for surfing; we were able to take a group surf lesson, and the instructors were excellent! Shops are within walking distance. Getting to the beach, Cascais, and Sintra is easy by bus or Uber. A big thank you to Pedro, who helped us organize this tailor-made birthday weekend with friends. We'll definitely be back!"

"We checked into this hotel for a wedding and were shown to one of the 2 twin-rooms above the entrance courtyard. Fast forward to the next morning: we wake up to bugs crawling around our bedding, pillows, up the walls, curtains and pretty much any textile surface - blood marks all over our bedding. We tried to be discreet about it but without even so much as an apology from the owner, she told us she’s been trying to get rid of them for TWO YEARS and asked us not to write a review… how dare someone knowingly put guests into that situation, especially when there were kids & babies present. The other twin-room is also full of them, as our friends later found out. Ultimately, we ended up leaving that night and staying elsewhere - can’t wait to quarantine all our clothes!"

"Stayed in when hiking down the coast from Praia dos Macas to Cascais. This was a perfect stopping point right off of the hiking trails and is located very close to the ocean; there is a wonderful spot to watch sunsets just a short walk down the road. So convenient to walk straight in off the trails to recharge and hop right back on the trail the next day. The staff is very hospitable and truly cares about the quality of your stay. Pascal was very welcoming and made me feel right at home. Rooms are good size and well appointed. I would recommend this to friends and family when they visit the Sintra region."
