"I arrived at the Mercure Le Mans after driving my beloved sports car all the way from London, expecting a gentle welcome. What I got instead was an underground car park that appeared to have been designed for Matchbox cars and optimistic cyclists. Negotiating the entrance ramp felt less like parking and more like a televised endurance challenge. One wrong move and I’d have been explaining to my insurance company how a perfectly good sports car became modern art. I nearly suffered a coronary halfway down. The saving grace was Gerald on reception, a gentleman of extraordinary patience who, at 1am, actually walked the perimeter of the hotel to help guide me into the garage. If every hotel had a Gerald, half the world’s problems would disappear before breakfast. The hotel itself is full of character, spotlessly clean and wonderfully quiet. The location is excellent too, making it an ideal base for exploring Le Mans. My only surprise came overnight when I discovered that the “double bed” was in fact two singles in a committed but distant relationship. I woke up wedged in the gap between them, folded into a shape that would have impressed Quasimodo’s chiropractor. Breakfast was a buffet that looked as though several coach parties had arrived five minutes before me, but the selection was good and the staff remained cheerful, helpful and unfailingly pleasant throughout. Despite my midnight battle with the garage and my brief transformation into a hunchback, this is a hotel I’d happily return to. Good value, great location, lovely staff and a special mention to Gerald, who deserves a medal, a pay rise, or at the very least a much larger car park."

"We stayed here on our road trip from UK to Portugal .. fantastic little hotel in the middle of Le Mans. When we arrived we were met by a very helpful lady who gave us our room key and instructed us to park our car in the private garage … this is a must as parking in Le Mans is difficult. After going out for dinner we woke next morning to go for breakfast only to be served by the man who actually built it !. Having had our continental breakfast and a great conversation we packed up and left … excellent!! This is not a big glitzy hotel but very clean and tidy small hotel for a stop over … would definitely stay again … as I said the garage is a must !"

"The room at Artyster was a good size for 3 of us. The bathroom had a bath and sink, although there was little space for toiletries and there was only 1 small mirror which, as 3 girls, we would have appreciated 1 or 2 more for getting ready. The location is close to Le Mans centre and easily walkable to most places that we needed to go 😊"
