Manapouri Holiday Park ★★★

"This camp features a variety of overnighting options with powered and unpowered camper van sites, some built-out residences and some very basic cabins. The bathhouses were very well-maintained, as was the central kitchen dining area. Staff were friendly and helpful. The camp is quiet and low-key. If you love the van/camp life, Manapouri Holiday Park is an ideal location for visiting the Doubtful Sound/Milford Sound region of the Fjordlands National Park. You’re overlooking Lake Manapouri with nothing to block your view, and it’s an easy stroll to Fraser Beach. The village of Manapouri - with a few restaurants and coffee shops - is a comfortable number of steps away. The sunrises here are awe-inspiring, with the mountains of the South Alps just beyond the lake beckoning. Serious eats (and drink) are better obtained in the village of Te Anau, about 10 minutes drive north. It gets crowded there, though - a reason to stay this venue instead - so make sure you book your evening meal in advance. Overall high marks for this camp (assuming a camp is really your expectation and you’re spending most of your time on activities in this beautiful region. Just one thing: guys, can we put some hooks in the cabins to hang stuff up?"

Te Anau Manapouri Lake Hotel ★★★

"We had nowhere to stay around 10 PM, so we urgently booked a hotel. We saw this hotel on Ctrip had rooms available and was bookable, so we booked it. However, when we arrived, the hotel was already closed, and no one answered the phone, so we couldn't check in. Since we didn't check in and didn't cause the hotel any potential loss, I feel we have the right to get our room fee back. Although the booking stated it was non-refundable, which we understand, we did arrive and the hotel refused to check us in, so it wasn't our fault. We tried to negotiate a refund with the hotel, but they refused our request, which was unbelievable. They didn't even accept our booking and yet they still charged us—it's like robbery! Finally, Ctrip intervened and, since they also felt it wasn't our fault, they agreed to compensate us for the loss. However, the hotel's behavior was completely unreasonable."

"The house is small but cozy. The bed is comfortable, the linens are clean, and it was very comfortable. The shared kitchen has everything you need for cooking. The shared showers and toilets are clean. There's a relaxation area with board games, and there's also a separate area with table tennis. The location is excellent—right on the lake, with stunning views! The staff is very welcoming and friendly!"
