"Sorry, I can only offer a blunt criticism. The hotel is a bit dated, especially for a small border town (reportedly, with a population of just over 10,000). This is completely understandable and acceptable. However, the front desk attendant's attitude and work procedures are completely incomprehensible. Here's the conversation: A guest arrives and asks: "Hello, could you please tell me? I haven't placed a Ctrip booking yet. Could you please let me know if Ctrip can be placed right here at the front desk?" The receptionist (without even looking up) says: "You're welcome." The guest asks: "Excuse me, could you please tell me what local specialties are nearby?" The receptionist says: "You can look it up online." The guest asks: "Excuse me, what time is breakfast?" The receptionist, still not looking up, replies: "7:30 to 8:30." While we might assume this is a good intention, I believe the receptionist wasn't targeting this guest, but she actually seems completely unwilling to work (if that's the case, why do you do this job? Not to mention professionalism), or perhaps just acts like, "Come if you want, don't bother me." This hotel appears to be the highest-priced in the area on Ctrip and a three-star rating. Normally, even former government-run guesthouses wouldn't be this bad these days; even asking locals on the street wouldn't tell you the same thing. Such reception desks and hotels are truly uncommon these days. The hotel's breakfast (the restaurant staff were quite good) was actually quite acceptable; at least it was clean and filling. The plus side is that both the room and bathroom have heating, which made the room quite warm when the weather started to get cold, reflecting the typical Northeastern temperature. Compared to similar hotels (of this tier) in Erdao Baihe Town, the value for money here is quite different. Next time, I'll try the hotel with the large rooftop by the river (Zhi?yuan); perhaps it's not always the same. The above isn't a complaint, but simply a hope that the staff can do better. One more thing: Although it's a small, remote county, there are so many reasons and angles to attract visitors, and it could easily make the area stand out. What a shame!"
