"The hotel is run by a very helpful and friendly team. Kenneth in particular, was great. He took us on a wetland tour and the birding was outstanding. He is very knowledgeable, and could not have done more for us. Many large crocs too, but for us, the birds were worth visiting Costa Rica for. So many and such variety. Seeing Jabiru was the highlight. 26 of them!"

"We stayed December 2024 in the very private Cocoa Cabin. Breakfast was varied each day and was exceptional (hot Chocolate from the cocoa for their yard). It was a nice treat not to have to share any walls with other guests (just the sounds of frogs at night and birds in the morning). At night we could look for frogs in the garden with the owner. The place was very clean and comfortable. The hosts were very warm and we loved learning about Costa Rica culture. Shower is hot water on demand, so you could change the temperature to hot or cooler on the shower dial (based on the season). Small kitchen with the necessary basics was included. They only recommended tours and restaurants they were familiar with and approved. Close to a lovely national park with waterfalls, all sorts of tours are available in this area and better than Monteverde with wildlife abundant (we saw 2 and 3 toed sloths, toucans, frogs in the garden). Wifi connection was consistent. I would go back in a heartbeat."

"Easily accessible, the hotel offers very comfortable facilities and a minimalist style, perfect for disconnecting from everyday life and reconnecting with the peace and sounds of nature that characterize the area. The views are incredible for those of us who love landscapes; you can see the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, the Miravalles Volcano, and the Tenorio Volcano. Additionally, it offers trails, rivers, and hot springs. Not to be forgotten is the friendly welcome and treatment, which make you feel completely at ease."

"Rancho Humo is a little challenging to get to (roads are a bit rough), but it is a wonderful spot in all respects. We had an amazing view from our balcony. The meals are really delicious and lovingly made. Most valuable to us were the beautiful grounds, and the tours available on them. Kenneth was our guide and was exemplary. He was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He seemed excited both to see the birds (and crocs) and to be able to share them with and point them out to us. The huge flocks of waterfowl were like something out of a dream. Kenneth offered us a bunch of his own extra time to make sure we were having a memorable experience. We also, through Humo, were able to book a river tour with another wonderful guide, on which we saw many, many crocodiles and a lot of birds and some monkeys. (This stood in marked contrast to a river tour in Tamarindo, which largely consisted of well-worn jokes and what seemed like a jaded guide). We strongly recommend not only staying at Estancia Rancho Humo, but taking advantage of their great tour offerings (you can see the options on their website). It was a bit expensive, but well worth it as a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. And it was great even though Palo Verde Parque was closed. Don’t not come because of that - both the wetlands of Rancho Humo and the River tour show you a lot of what there is in Palo Verde."

"Loved the warm hospitality from this little family run posada. Luzbeth and Alejandro her son hosted me for a night away from the hot Guanacaste coast. Everything is meticulously maintained and immaculate. Breakfast of fresh fruits, eggs, yucca with cheese and pancakes was lovely. My little cabin was perfect. Muchisimas Feacias, y Bravo!"

"It is hard to express truly how exceptional this place is. What makes it so special is the incredible customer service that all staff on the ranch provided. The owner, Jorge, is a constant presence who continually went out of his way to ensure that my family of 4 with two children (ages 8 and 11) maximized our experience. We were able to chat with him several times. In those talks, we learned about Costa Rica in general as well as the more local region surrounding the ranch. He provided suggestions for places to eat while in Monteverde which turned out to be 10/10. Given the remote area, it is best to eat breakfast and lunch at the ranch. The food is prepared specifically for you. Jorge will message you asking what you would like from the menu and it is made with care from the wonderful staff that work there, who are locals from the surrounding small towns. One of them even took the time to make a large grass cricket as a souvenir. The ranch includes an extensive trail network for hiking or running which have numerous great lookouts overlooking the rolling hills of the area and volcanoes in the distant. Also there is a swimming pool with a very fun - and fast - water slide. The hot tub and numerous hammocks were also well utilized. Our family utilized the horseback riding that the ranch offers which was a fantastic experience. The horses are well looked after and are essentially free range across the vast ranch, sometimes walking up to your door. 10/10!"
