The Houtman Retreat is very special property. Located between Saugerties and Woodstock, the house is sited on a quiet country road, and while the property is private, it is not isolated. The interior is just as special: 4 bedrooms and three baths, well separated for privacy but with spacious common areas for comfortable conviviality. (We can offer a 2-bedroom, 2-bath version for less cost if you need a smaller space.)There is a wood-burning fireplace in the living room, and a gas fireplace in the sitting room. There is a spacious kitchen, well stocked, and in another area is a prep kitchen just in case you’re cooking for a crowd. And if two kitchens aren’t enough, there is an outdoor kitchen in back with a gas grill, a smoker, and a pizza oven!For fun in summer, we have a 4-foot deep heated pool that is available 3rd week in May through third week in September. The hot tub is available all year round. And for more fun any time, a lovely walk down the path behind the property lands you next to the stream. Take a lazy walk along the cleared path, or just sit and look and the water flowing and the wildlife moving about. The style was carefully chosen and executed. There are breakable items pretty much everywhere, sharp corners, and all that jazz. Toddlers on-the-move will need a little supervision.BUGS:The property is regularly serviced by an exterminator (they use an organic, non-toxic tick and mosquito repellent spray), but bugs are unfortunately just part of life out here in the country. Please check yourself, your clothing, and pets for ticks after playing outside.LAWNMOWING/SNOW REMOVAL:In the summer our lawn is mowed bi-weekly, our landscaping team may come and mow during your stay. In winter, when there are more than 4 inches of snowfall, our snow removal guys will plow the driveway.ADDITIONAL GUESTS:The bedrooms can accommodate 8 guests, and 2 additional people may be added to your reservation-- the sofa in the lounge (not private) features a pullout double bed.-No smoking in or on the property.-Dog-friendly– we appreciate your attention to excess pet hair left behind on the furniture, a pet hair roller will be provided for your use.-No parties or extra guests outside the maximum occupancy allowed on the listing.-No weapons.-The barns and outbuildings are private areas, and are off-limits to guests.
