Mango Bay Resort was a quite unusual experience. There is a lot to unpack, so if you're thinking of staying here, you might want to stick with me for a minute. First "Resort" is a bit generous... There is no bar, or restaurant, or any kind of food service. No stores or shops, no spa services, nor are any of these things within walking distance. There is a pool, and a good amount of water toys for both pool and beach, and the charming proprietor, Mary Beth, and the killer water view. Mary Beth is working hard to get a bar and reaturant on property, and that would make a huge difference. We were in the 2 bedroom Beachfront Villa... so one of thier higher end options. The upside is these villas, as you can see in the photos, are incredibly close to the water, with breathtaking views. The other side of that coin is that the folks walking and hanging out on the beach are close enough to chat with from your porch, so not a great sense of privacy when you are outside if other people are near you on the beach. The unit itself was just plain strange. There are two bedrooms and two baths... but both baths were outside the bedrooms, adjacent to each other in a hallway. The kitchen and the dining table were outside on the porch, so shooing away flies was part of any food prep, but the refrigerator was inside, in a corner of the living room, with no counter or table nearby... so even making a sandwich entailed a lot of back and forth. The outdoor kitchen can be closed off with screened doors when not being used, which helps with the flies. The no-see-ums and flies are no worse than anywhere else right on the water, but they will be there - just keep some Off handy if they get pushy. The main bedroom was nicely sized, great closet and dresser, and nicely cooled by the A/C (which was in both bedrooms), but our bed was not good. A single coil spring matress on a slat platform. And it was well past it's expiration date, with plenty of dips and and squeaks. At $800 a night, I expect a really comfortable bed. The 2nd bedroom was tiny, so tiny it had no dresser, and the closet was not in the bedroom, but out in the common hall area, which made things a bit awkward. Bathrooms were acceptable, except for the shower set up. I promise you Motel 6 has better towels, soap and shower condiments. And what I don't understand is this is the cheapest thing to get right. Get a few refillable containers of body wash, shampoo and conditioner, invest in some fluffy towels, and this becomes a selling point instead of an embarrassment. I mentioned the pool, and it is nice. Seems new... not huge, but very pleasant... same depth everywhere (I think about 5 feet). It is located towards the back of the property, so no water view from the pool, but we spent some very relaxing hours floating there. I know it sounds like I'm breaking bad here, but we had a nice stay, Mary Beth found us a great driver to take us to dinner each night (Shout out to Clennell!). It's a solid 3
