Travelling up to meet up with family, got delayed on the M6 - was rung at 5pm asking what time we would arrive, which I thought was a nice touch - however when we got there the main door was locked. On checking in we was informed the bar was closed and to exit the building if we go out we had to use the night entrance. It is apparent that a lot of money has been spent on the main bar/reception area, giving it a modern welcoming feel. However this has not extended to the accomodation upstairs. The room itself - COLD - radiator was off and we had to turn it on, same for the bathroom was also off, hard to reach the control without standing on a chair. Disconcerted to see that there was no blind/curtain in the bathroom, just a frosted modesty window, which made using the bathroom very uncomfortable - we hoped that the modesty glass did its trick. We also understand we are not the first to complain about the lack of privacy in the bathroom. Bathroom floor was slippy, especially if water was dripped on it - this did cause my husband to slip. Towel rail loose. Bed - was reasonably comfy, though the bed frame was very very creaky when the bed moved. Blankets - adequate, additional one would have been ideal considering it was -2 and snowing. Housekeeping could do with being better, found a personal hygiene item under the bed (thankfully unused) Went out for evening meal and on return the bedroom was comfortably warm - but the bathroom remained COLD to the point of being Baltic. Not nice at all. No apparent welcome card with instructions on how to contact reception could be found and the door to the bar area was alarmed to deter guests from going that way. No WiFi codes either. Breakfast was good though. Plenty of choice for the continental Breakfast and a decent coffee machine.
