I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Hongqiao NECC while attending a solar expo in Shanghai, and I must say — the location struck the perfect balance. It’s close enough to the National Exhibition & Convention Centre (NECC) to skip the worst of the traffic, but just far enough to offer better rates than the hotels right next door. Smart move if you’re traveling on a budget but don’t want to compromise on convenience. The staff were a delight — warm, accommodating, and always ready with a translation device in hand. Their genuine effort to understand and assist made navigating the language barrier feel almost effortless. For a foreign visitor, that kind of welcome goes a long way in making you feel at ease. I’d booked a room with a king-size bed, and I had no regrets. Clean, spacious, and supremely comfortable. But here’s the kicker — the shower was stocked with Tresemmé products. Now, maybe this doesn’t sound like a big deal, but where I come from, Tresemmé isn’t exactly your average hotel-brand shampoo. It was a small surprise, but a luxurious one! And then there was breakfast. Complimentary, yes — but hardly basic. It was a buffet bonanza. From traditional Chinese options to Western staples, the variety was genuinely impressive for a hotel in this price range. All in all, this hotel delivered on value, service, and comfort — with a few pleasant surprises thrown in. Highly recommended if you’re attending events at NECC or just need a solid, affordable base in this part of Shanghai.
