I enjoyed my stay at Lotus Homestay. It is located in a central and chic area of Shanghai, near to the SH Conservatory of Music, where I was attending an event. If you enjoy 20s and 30s architecture, you can see many examples of this era in the mansions and townhouses in the surrounding neighbourhood. If you enjoy coffee, there are many cafes nearby to choose from, including a real French bakery with delicious and authentic offerings. People watching features too, with plenty of chic locals parading dainty pooches on leashes, as well as an international kind of vibe.
The homestay has everything you need, admittedly in a rather small space. The bed was comfortable and I slept well and the place is very secure with a code for the door passed to you by the owner. You'll need to contact the owner beforehand by WeChat, but, it's actually reassuring to have this contact, and to know you can be in touch easily should there be any issues. In all Lotus Homestay is great for a getaway and I recommend it especially for solo travelers (foreigners as well) who are looking for an accessible and budget friendly stay.
