Mercure Hotel (Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station)

They have been amazing hosts. The hotel was better than I expected! The location is very convenient. The staff members were amicable, went beyond to assist me with local queries. Highly recommend.

Good choice near the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. Room is clean but small for family living! Good enough for short stay . Staffs are friendly and cooperative.

It’s a boring kind of place with unexciting rooms but I suppose that is typical for this type of hotel. You probably can’t walk there judging by the maze of roads. And although it is about 1 km away from the station, taxis seem to need to travel 5 times that distance. I can’t see any particular benefit to staying here. When you do arrive, don’t expect a warm welcome. Also the two ladies on reception has no English, which is unusual for this type of hotel. The room was adequate but walls and doors are thin and the corridors reek of smoke. The worst thing though is that the 2 flat pin electrical sockets have a plate that stops you from using them! You can only use the 3 pin angled sockets which nobody carries. There is USB-A but all of my devices are now USB-C. I could hear through the wall the desperate attempts of my neighbour to plug in his devices, and failing. It is ridiculous. They give no warnings, advice or guidance about this. Thankfully my power bank had enough charge to get me through to my train the next day. I wouldn’t choose this hotel again. Better to jump on the MRT and travel 2 or 3 stops down the line for a better place with easier access and electrical sockets that work.

I chose this hotel for my staying because it was really close to the train station and well maintained. The furniture was new, the room was clean and they gave me some healthy snacks at the arriving time. The breakfast was chinese and international style and has enought choices. The only problem was the the noise from the other rooms, the walls probably are really thin.
