Jesmond Hotel

We were in London for a weekend away and my friend found the Jesmond as it was close to the City Centre - we booked for 2 nights and had the quad room (although the 4th bed was a camp bed more suited to a child than an adult (fortunately the friend using the bed was tiny so that was ok). The room was basic with not much room between the beds but was stiflingly hot, even in what was not a very hot day in September but was clean, if not a little tired - there was a hole we thought in the floor just outside the bathroom which was a little troubling. The bathroom however was tinier than tiny, so much so you could have sat on the toilet and showered your legs at the same time. However the shower worked, and the water was hot. Could have done with more towels - we did take some from laundry outside our room but on returning to the room to get supplies from town, they had been removed. There was a fan in the room, but even that struggled to keep the temperature down. We were out on the Friday evening and most of the day on Saturday and on returning both evenings to the hotel we found the central heating on - no wonder it was so warm in there. There was absolutely no need to have the heating on - I would have thought the owners would have conserved costs and turned it off. As a result, we had to leave our windows open all night and didn't get much sleep due to the constant noise that comes with staying in London. Breakfast was a little hit and miss - the fried eggs were overcooked, cheap sausages, scrambled were overcooked but as we had only paid just over £60 a night each in London for bed and breakfast, we got what we paid for. Tottenham Court Road is only a 5 minute walk away and we would have been better served having breakfast out to be honest. We had to pre-book our time for breakfast too as the dining room is very small and cannot accommodate all guests at the same time. I was aware that other guests were having issues and were struggling to get a member of staff to help them, but I think the hotel is family run and they may have actually been out. There is no actual check in or checkout procedure from what I could see but I did arrive after my friends and left before them. The stairs are a little troublesome and there is no lift so do be aware that if you are on one of the higher floors, you need to hump your luggage up and down yourself. This is certainly a "budget" hotel and you certainly can tell that when you stay. However for the price it is certainly value for money. Would I go back? Probably not, mainly due to the heat in the room and the disappointing breakfast, but it is a budget hotel and you get what you pay for.

It's a fantastic location right in Bloomsbury, the history of the building is fascinating, the staff are friendly and responsive, the English breakfasts are good (we especially loved the toast with butter and jam)—what more could you ask for?

Excellent place to stay. Convenient to buses and the Tube, attractions, restaurants, even grocery stores. The British Museum is just down the street, Trafalgar Square a couple of blocks farther. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, the garden is beautifully landscaped, and the breakfast is delicious. A nice quiet hotel -- I've stayed there several times.

A great, safe, clean hotel in an amazing location at an affordable price with very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Perfect for the British museum or to walk home after a show, for Covent Garden, Oxford Street and more. And the good breakfast sets you up for the day.

Room 8 rather small and bathroom tiny, but clean and well-appointed considering the space. Great to see hooks on back of door for coats, and hooks in bathroom for towels. Also 2 comfortable chairs, a table, plenty of coat hangers, shelf space, and tea/coffee making facilities. No AC but fan was provided. Breakfast was good and the gentleman at breakfast and on reception was very friendly, welcoming and thoughtful. We had a comfortable stay.

Very cozy place with a very good location. The location of the hotel is very quiet. The hotel staff is very friendly and charming. The room was very clean and the breakfast is very varied. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would return without hesitation.
