Excellent accommodations. Would certainly stay again. Excellent proximity to everything you’d want to see in Edinburgh. Great breakfast in the pub next door. Staff so accommodating. Pubs at night are crawling with University students, so I suggest reservations for any of them (for dinner)

Very friendly staff. Rooms were wonderful and hotel was in excellent position for sightseeing and eating meals at night Scotland has many areas to view and a travel tour bus is at the door if this hotel making it convenient and accessible to all

We booked this hotel because it looked like a fun, funky (the good kind of funky), unique place right in the heart of the tourist area of Ediburgh. The location was spectacular, but the hotel was a disappointment. The room we booked was one of the largest options they offer, but it was tiny. I don't mean the usual "Americans surprised by size of European hotel rooms" tiny - I mean objectively tiny. It was so small, the only place we could open our suitcases fully was on the bed. Unfortunately, because the floors were so filthy, that made the bed dirty. There was a wool blanket at the foot of the bed which was also dirty - it had a lot of long hair (not ours) stuck all over it and a suspect crusty spot. We originally booked for one night, but then decided to add a second night before checking in so we didn't have to move hotels again - big mistake. We were stuck here for two nights and were very disappointed. The promised "comic book wallpaper" had been painted over (with a really poor paint job - the paint was scratched/rubbed off in places). The wall map with fun magnets to plan your trip in your room was there, but there were no magnets. We had wifi on our first night, but it was completely out for the rest of our stay. The hotel hallways were a maze - getting to the room was like walking through a Willy Wonka fever dream. The only positive is the location - that is stellar, but it doesn't make up for all the downsides - especially at this price point. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. (Unless you're a wealthy teenager who is there to drink and party all night and can pass out anywhere. There seemed to be no shortage of them.)

The Grassmarket Hotel was convenient, clean and the staff were super helpful. They stored my luggage for me, as I arrived mid-morning. My room was small, but the bathroom was a great size and quite comfortable. I had no problems getting my luggage up to my room and there was no noise from the pub below. It was very convenient to the Royal Mile, the Castle, Holyrood, terrific restaurants, and everything else I wanted to see. As a woman who was traveling solo, I felt safe and absolutely enjoyed my stay!

I'm writing this from my room. I've an early flight, so have to be up at 5am. The room is nice enough. Wifi works. Great central location. The staff are very friendly. There was a mix up at the desk that saw another guest given a key to my room, but that got sorted quickly. Fortunately, I was in the room, so nothing bad happened. Until I tried to sleep... Apparently it's on their site, so the staff say, but I can't find it. What is, you ask? Why, the notification that the pub under my room starts playing music at around 10pm that continues until past midnight. Of course, if you don't book direct, you don't go to their site, so you have no chance to find out you're getting kept up by the thumping bass. The staff seem as tired by the whole noise deal as I am. I guess that means they have to deal with a lot of guest complaints about the music. This will be the last time they get a complaint from me. I won't be back.

I paid $435 US per night. I was so excited to stay here, it was my splurge booking! HORRIBLE accommodations, we got put in an attic closet that looked nothing like the rooms online. It was tiny; you had to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs that were a maze. Room was uncomfortable, AC would only allow to 21c, which is 70 degrees! Couldn't open a window, but the fan provided was dusty and dirty so I cleaned that - it didn't help with no air from outside. Beds were uncomfortable and so small that you almost fell out every time you rolled over. Water pot was also gross, cleaned that prior to using. Hot water in bathroom sink NEVER go hot. You were lucky if it got luke warm once every 10 times you used it. If you'd like to stay in this area, literally stay anywhere else! You may get assigned to a closet in the attic and pay way too much! This is the 7th hotel on my journey and the worst accommodations. I left having an asthma flare because the room was stifling and I couldn't get any air due to the one window not opening. Most disappointed I've ever been with a hotel!
