Royal Dunkeld Hotel

Rooms were dirty cold old fashioned single glazed windows so lots of damp shower was only just warm at best heating the same cool not hot !! Missing items from breakfast menu not worth the money will never be back

The hotel is on the main street of Dunkeld but my room window was to the internal yard with hotel parking. Very calm location. Good size room. Very large screen TV set with Netflix. Great choice for breakfast with large portions. Very polite and helpful hotel staff.

Absolutely Dismal place. Needs to be closed down and completely refurbished. Needs massive investment and decent management to get it back on track. It is filthy, disorganised and the grounds are full of discarded rubbish and building materials. I complained to the manager about the state of the place and our poor experience but she was disinterested in feedback and was very defensive and unwilling to see it from a guests perspective. We chatted to other guests who were appalled at the state of the place and who like us, won't be back.

The Royal Dunkeld Hotel, AWFUL AVOID! READ THE REVIEWS THEY DON'T LIE! We went for one night at a cost of £89 for room only no breakfast, you have to pay extra when you are there, if you wanted breakfast. The room had water marks on the ceiling and was freezing cold. There was a dripping/clicking pipe noise all night which kept us awake all night, so sleep depraved and not a relaxing break. Explained to the girl on reception in the morning we were not happy and was told there is nothing that can be done about pipe noises. Checkout is 10.30, but we got out of there earlier as we needed to get home for some sleep. Not happy and really disappointed, we will stay elsewhere next time, do not recommend this so called hotel to anyone.

We booked this as a night away to include a Halloween Disco. Check in was quick and smooth and room ready for us in advance of advertised check in time. The twin room was adequate but compact for our requirements however, no hairdryer, window was problematic to stay open ( we like the room aired). Curtains did not fit the window. The TV tiny on a table with the bracket of previous TV still in situ. Daisy unhappy with the real ale not being on and only instant coffee available in the room (Daisy takes own coffee bags). Doris was vexed as no hot chocolate and only one small packet of biscuits. Complimentary toiletries were harsh on our skin! Bedside lamps dirty glass shades. We both dressed accordingly for a spooky disco. Much to our disappointment only two people were there when we arrived increasing to eight. The small party was over by 10! The dj playing music to an empty room. There was a competition for the best dressed. Daisy and Doris were not winners on this occassion! The bathroom door did not shut properly, so no peeking! Shower cubicle very small and no hot water in the morning, as per our last visit in October. Hotel car park entrance in desperate need of upgrade. The weather was kind to us and we enjoyed beautiful walks along the river.

Can't comment on hotel. Only ate in bar. Ordered 2 sandwiches which allegedly come with chips. I ordered mine with gluten free bread. There is the option to add a bowl of soup for £2 (which my partner did). His sandwich turned up with soup but minus the chips. The bread was rock solid as was the bacon in it- he never leaves bacon but couldn't eat it. Mine came with some crisps and lettuce which I understand as I'd asked for gluten free so chips not suitable. The place was also really cold. Even my partner, who is mostly always warm, was cold. I know it's not particularly cold for November, but no one wants to be cold when sitting eating a meal and there was no heating on.

Horrific. Zero fire safety procedure after fire alarm went off at 4am. NO management in the building overnight!!! We were left confused in the lobby with children and elderly people. Only an extremely poorly trained and apathetic man appeared to turn the alarm off but communicated nothing to us about what was happening. Highly highly unsafe - if there were to be an actual fire this would be extremely dangerous. This hotel should be closed down. We felt so unsafe that we packed our bags and left at 4.30am in the morning.

Last minute booking and thought the Royal Dunkeld would be okay from our past visit a few years ago for a meal. I would not recommend eating or staying there until the faults are fixed. Good welcome and first impression of room was good but on closer inspection it was not as clean as it should be. The shower head was black with mold and no hot water to wash and shower. Half of the front door was missing and the dining room was very cold. The waitress kindly gave my wife a teapot with hot water to warm her hands. Thermostats on all radiators were broken and not able to be turned up. Food and service was very good but the experience lacked any management input to address issues raised. More worryingly the fire alarm went off at 8.30 at no instruction was given by the staff to renter the building (this was during Storm Ashley) Indeed it was a guest who was more knowledgeable about the panel than the manager! Overall, to be avoided until the issues are addressed. Reading previous reviews the cleanliness, hot water issues and a fire alarms appear to be reoccurring issues.

We stayed overnight in the Royal Dunkeld and found it to be a very pleasant experience. The room was clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the restaurant and it was tasty and value for money. Breakfast was good and a varied menu. The staff throughout our stay were super, very friendly. Sonia served us both dinner and breakfast and nothing was too much trouble. I almost didn’t book because of the poorer reviews, but I’m glad I did. I’d definitely return to the Royal Dunkeld Hotel for a stay.
