Charco Hotel

We got extremely lucky and noticed that the Charco Hotel had one room available (it had previously been sold out for a while) and immediately booked it for our overnight stay in Colonia. I think someone probably had to cancel their booking. Incredibly, this was also the balcony room facing the river (room #7). The suite was stunning, with a beautifully decorated sitting area and large sliding glass door out to the large balcony. We loved keeping the doors and windows open to let the breeze in and hear the crashing waves. You also get a direct view of the sunset, which was a nice surprise. This was definitely one of the most relaxing and lovely rooms we’ve stayed in. The king bed was super comfortable and the linens were spotless. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant as well, and both the food and service were impeccable. All the employees here were eager to help and so friendly. Just a wonderful stay in a beautiful town. I would 100% recommend Charco Hotel and especially the river view room with the balcony if it’s available.

Avoid this hotel! I booked this hotel for a trip with my girlfriend to Colonia. Two days before the trip, my girlfriend was admitted to intensive care in Buenos Aires where she remained for several days. The owner was made aware of this yet refused to refund or postpone the trip for a future date. The CHARM of the location is apparent only in pictures.

A very pretty hotel by the river in the old town. Our room was beautifully finished and very comfortable, with fan and AC as well as windows onto the side street. We were offered a complimentary glass of Uruguay champagne which we had in the garden bar. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. The hotel gave us a box of tea which I wanted to change for a different flavour and the gentleman on the desk turned the place upside down to find some! The only thing was there was no way of making tea with them in the room - though the bar did provide cups and hot water on request. We only ate breakfast in the restaurant which has a fantastic river view. The breakfast was all freshly prepared to order and was excellent. There is a swimming pool but despite it being very hot we were disappointed to find it didn't open until December.

Hotel is located by the river so you get lovely views at breakfast or from your room depending on your room. It is a short walk from the main square and sights. We had one of the larger rooms with an outdoor balcony but it was too cold to use it. Rooms are tastefully appointed and decorated but we were disappointed with the rickety cupboard which was filled with the cushions for the outdoor balcony chairs and the complete lack of drawers in the room for clothes. Given the price point of this hotel I would have expected them to have an outdoor sealed storage area on the balcony for the outdoor cushions vs using the little space we had. Also housekeeping would add more toiletries every day even if you had unused bottles and soap which was a bit wasteful but at least there was no issue with them not replacing used items. Rooms are very clean. We had a very comfortable sleep. Good shower which you need to let run for 5 mins before you get hot water as it is all heated by electricity but there was ample hot water for two showers. Lack of charging points in our room but we did have one that we could easily access. Staff very friendly. Breakfast is a small a la carte selection but ample as you can have everything on it ie they do not limit you to one item. There is croissants, eggs, cheese and cold meats, yoghurt and granola, breads etc. Plus they serve a range of coffee barista style so it makes for a nice start to your day. We did not eat in the restaurant but did have some cocktails. You get a 10% discount as a hotel guest. We found them well priced relative to the rest of the town and their quality is definitely better. We had a nice stay. Would suggest that two nights in Colonia is ample time without being at all rushed as it is quite small. Also an easy day trip from Buenos Aires.

It's a delightful hotel but there are totally different rooms. Some have a very rustic touch and those facing the sea are white and more modern. Be aware of the wind, if you like to be at the seafront. Our room was charming and well equipped but unfortunately, it was very noisy because the doors were not isolated at all. The restaurant is supposed to be the best in town and we enjoyed two dinners with good food & wine. The location of the hotel is perfect and on the other side of the street you get a delicious Paella.

Overrated and overpriced. Location in old town, terrace of the restaurant at the river directly. But just one room obviously to this site. So called suites are to the street and to the site where the suppliers coming and directly at the entrance floor. You can hear the whole day the noise. Breakfast - minimal standard, served a la carte with not so much choice. Staff, partially not English speaking and motivated. A pity, We had expected more.
