Parador de Alcaniz

Great stay at this majestic parador which enjoys a prime and commanding position atop the lovely old town of Alcaniz. Half castle, half convent, it radiates character and history from its mighty walls, and the views are incredible. Our duplex suite was spacious with classic, low key furnishings, excellent showers, plus mini bar and hot drink facilities. There is plentiful, free parking, a bar/cafe open throughout the day, and a stately looking restaurant serving lunch and dinner (food was excellent in the latter). It’s a short walk into the town, where you’ll find plenty of alternative eateries and bars. The remote location means you really need a car to explore the region, though the town does have a bus station, with regular routes to Zaragoza and Teruel, amongst others. The reception team were helpful, with good English skills, and our impression was that the Parador is well run and immaculately maintained.

On top in Alcaniz. Spacious room with a view. Restaurant with a good selection of local inspired food and wine. Good service. Due to road work it was not easy to find our way through the narrow streets up to the Parador.

Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms perfectly clean and beds so comfortable. Breakfast good - more flavoured yogurts would be nice. Bar very well run with a small selection of snack type foods.

Our food in the restaurant was bland, dry and tasteless. The wine was fine but our overall experience was disappointing and not good value for money. We would not eat in the restaurant again.

I really liked the calm, quiet atmosphere of this Parador. There were many places to sit and relax, inside and out. It is a beautiful, historic place that has, at the same time been respectfully adapted to the needs of the modern traveler. My room was in the older part, with beautiful views of the river and countryside beyond.

One of my favourite Paradors so far. Amazing hilltop location. Full of history, excavations currently ongoing. Plenty of parking. Room was huge with a courtyard view which was lovely. Bed was super comfortable. Ate in the bar rather than the restaurant and food was great. Decent breakfast too. Great location for the Motorland Aragon Moto GP track.
