When we arrived at the reception just before 3pm on 30th January, we were met by Paula. When checking in we presented our credit card, as requested, and informed her that we might use other modalities of payment when checking out and she reassured us that it was perfectly acceptable. She then took us to our room on the 1st floor. The room had practically no view at all. I casually mentioned that on a previous occasion we had stayed at a deluxe rooftop terrace room which was advertised as offering breathtaking views but were given a room with a restricted view of a rooftop. Hence this time we just booked a superior double room so that we would not be disappointed and it turned that this room had a similar view. We chose MO because it appeared clean and liked the location. I am not sure if Paula had realized, when we checked in, that we had been at MO Zurich before. However, she said she would check if she could get us another room with a better view. This she did and we moved rooms at about 5pm. On 1 Feb, I went down at about 6:45 am, to settle my bill in part with cash and in part with the credit card. We were returning home and did not require swiss francs anymore. The staff attending to me was Pedro. When I requested for my bill he told me that my card had already been charged and that I could not change to a different modality of payment. When I said that I had made it clear when registering, that I would be settling the bill with alternate payment modalities, he was rude and dismissive and said that there was nothing in my records to that effect. When I asked if the charge for the car I had booked to go the airport had been included in the bill he informed me that he did not see such an item on the bill. He then asked me rudely when I had made the booking for the car and I said that I had done it on the very same day I checked in and it had been subsequently confirmed by the concierge. I protested that his manner and service were not appropriate for the standard expected of MO. He changed his mind then and told me what the car charge would be and asked me how I would wish to settle my bill. I said it would be 2000 in swiss francs and the rest on a credit card. After this most unpleasant experience I proceeded for my breakfast. And while eating the yogurt I casually looked at the cap of the bottle and noticed its expiry date. I then proceeded to the buffet table and saw some of the yogurt bottles had expired. Please see photo. I informed the staff in the Savoy room and left. It was not just Pedro, the culture / practices at Mandarin Oriental, Zurich have deteriorated regardless of their promotion tag lines.
