Aux Tanneries de Wiltz

The staff at this hotel I the most welcoming and helpful. The hotel was exactly as we saw it in the pictures. The food in the restaurant was delicious. A perfect getaway if you need peace & quite. The hotel is busy but you wouldn't even think they had guests, that's how quite it gets.

After arriving at Wiltz station in late afternoon I walked to Aux Tanneries de Wiltz as it was the nearest hotel to the station and booked a 'Confort Plus' room for one night. The room was spacious and the dinner good so I ended up staying for four nights. This is a traditional hotel where some of the rooms are a bit tired but all are good value and the staff are good. Denise, the receptionist, went the extra mile to make me welcome.

I find it astonishing that hotels like this still exist. The place is a proper dump; dark and gloomy, outdated decor, my bedroom feels like it was last updated in the eighties. Despite the hoover which sat, abandoned in the corridor throughout my stay, I was amazed to see this filthy light fitting at head level, just above the bed. Despite being on my own I’ve been given a two bedroom suite which hilariously doesn’t have a shower, just a bath, which has taps at one end and a large protruding drain at the other so it’s impossible to sit in it comfortably. How much did I have to fork out for this place!??? €180 for the night, absolutely insane.

I had booked a 2 night stay in the hotel and cancelled immediately after having been shown the room. I had to pay for 1 night so we stayed one of the nights booked (if it had been cheaper I would have left straight away….) The room was large as was the bathroom but very basic and very dark and gloomy. No attention to detail, really cheap decor, curtain too short for window, small TV on an office desk, it one attempt at making the room feel cosy or confortable. The room was suppose to have a river view but you can only see trees and car parks from the single small window (there was a small river beyond the car park so guess you can say it did have a “river view…”). The curtains were too short, bathroom completely covered in white tiles with plumbing showing under the sinks, cheap plastic cups and a very old wall mounted hairdryer. The fire alarm was missing. The entrance to the room was from the back of the hotel and it was noisy outside until late. It was a shocking place and such a disappointment to what I expected for the price they charge. I’ve stayed in youth hostels nicer than this! Reading the reviews, the other guests must have stayed in a different hotel or maybe this room (17) was an exception and all others are nicer. I would definitely not stay again or recommend it to anyone.

Though Wiltz is a quiet little town, we found the level of noise intrusive in this hotel .First of all clients need to be aware that there is some MAJOR building work going on next door, starting at 8am and continuing till 5. And in the evening there was some loud music coming from across the car park (not from hotel). Also if you have a river room and want to keep windows open for cool air, large groups of motorcycle guests drink and talk loudly outside the rooms till the early hours. The hotel itself is pretty good. Rooms are quite comfy (though overpriced in my opinion) . The highlights are the swimming pool (excellent) and the food which was superb. Just as well, as there seems to be little else of a comparable standard in Wiltz, certainly within walking distance. Finally, parking can be a bit hit and miss, with the aforementioned motorbikers taking up large areas of the smallish car park including,( unacceptably), the one disabled space.

We had a wonderfull weekend in Wiltz. We received a great welcome and received lots of information about the local walking paths and things to do in the area. The restaurant was just great, and our room had a beautiful view on the local river.
