Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa

Myself, husband and baby stayed here for for an overnight break and as much as we tried to be optimistic and over look small issues, they just kept stacking up and getting progressively worse. Pros: Staff were lovely, the bed was comfortable, cocktails were well made and I was able to park right outside the room. Cons: The Room Unfortunately the room did feel quite dark and with it being on the ground floor and both windows situated on a walk way, we couldn’t leave them wide open. There were also quite a lot of stains around the room and the bathroom could also do with better cleaning as there was a lot of mould in the corners and a stench from the drain. Lunch lunch in the elements bar was where the sharp decline started. To start with, many seats were quite wet, presumably from spa guest sitting with wet swim suits under their robes. We ended up waiting about 1.5 hours in total for a steak and chips even though it was fairly empty in there. After watching 2 other tables gets their food we discovered that there had been a “system error”. When the food arrived, to our shock, there was butchers string wrapped around and through the steak. Staff were thankfully very quick to take it away and 20 mins later there was another plate. Unfortunately all this chaos meant that I was too late for my treatment and had to cancel as there was no space to push it back. Breakfast At this point I didn’t think anything could get worse with a simple English breakfast and Tea. Unfortunately I was very wrong. We ordered breakfast via room service and unfortunately there were some Items missing. The plate was beautifully presented but I’d prefer if they focussed on the things that mattered most; burnt sausage, un-rendered bacon fat, empty salt shaker etc. It got worse when we poured tea into a cup and saw something floating in the cup (which I assumed was a tea leaf). Upon opening the pot I was disgusted at the buildup in there. (See pics) We then noticed a foul smell coming from the tea tray, so I lifted up the mat on it and I was horrified by the mould and smell. I could see old food and liquid that had accumulated from many meals. (See pic) At this point I had just had enough and decided it was time to go home. We packed up and spoke to management. They were very apologetic and agreed it was below standard. It was unfortunately our worst hotel experience ever and will sadly not be returning.

Loved every moment. The staff were so friendly and welcoming wherever you went in the hotel. The spa facilities were lovely, me and my partner were just in awe with everything and we felt very relaxed. I know people on here were complaining about how dim it is in there, but we really liked it and thought it added to the atmosphere. I can’t fault anything within the hotel, even our food in the RG Restaurant was fab. Thank you for making our weekend perfect for us!

In July i had my wedding at Rowhill grange. The staff were amazing. A very special thank you to Becky Bell for all the help in organising and making this day special given that this was a traditional Sri Lankan wedding. The whole event proceeded seamlessly thanks to the effort of the staff. The venue it self was stunning. Thank you for helping to our day special

Lovely stay on a Saturday night. Everyone was lovely, so helpful and polite. The barman who served us drinks wasn’t so helpful and looked like he was having a bad day, or just didn’t want to be there. The spa was lovely, room was really nice. Yes it needs some renovation works, but was a lovely way overall and just what we needed

The staff at Rowhill are amazing. I honestly cannot fault them, nothing is too much. The food at the restaurant is incredible, amazing quality and innovative. However the hotel has seen better days. I have been coming here for 13 years and I don’t think it’s been updated in that time. There is chipped and peeling paint not only in the hotel but also in the spa, as well as some of the spa pool features not working. The carpets particularly on the first floor are some of the most disgusting I have seen, looking matted with ground in dirt. Our room also had dirty carpets as well as mould round the windows. Definitely not what you expect for a hotel that claims to be luxury and charges as such. A mix up with the booking of our treatments meant we opted to cancel them rather than one of us miss out which was a shame but these things happen. The app that allows you to order food is a good idea but rather slow and a little confusing and not user friendly when ordering breakfast. Sadly I think we maybe looking elsewhere for our next spa break, however I am sure with some updating and redecoration this place could be returned to its former glory.

Our wedding day was on 24.06.2024. We honestly had the best day! Our venue was stunning and both our family and friends complimented it constantly. For the price we paid it was amazing! Becky was so helpful in answering all of our questions and made the day stress free Compared to some venues charging £20k. We wouldn’t have changed it for the world!! BEST DAY EVER

I booked a last minute Renew & Refresh break for my husband and I as a small getaway. I paid for early check-in for a 12PM arrival and was greeted and checked in very smoothly. We stayed in the Poppy room which was very clean and had a lovely superking bed. One downside is that the shower had a very slow drain. If we were to leave the shower running at full power the bathroom would most certainly flood. Food at the bar was lovely, albeit pricey but that is to be expected of a 4* hotel. Food and drink was prompt and the staff were super attentive. The Utopia Spa is an amazing spa facility. The downstairs pool and jacuzzi was a great way to relax, and the upstairs pool was a great way to have a nice little swim. The steam room was also excellent and the sauna in the changing rooms was a nice way to end a spa session. When booking we had an option of either a back, neck and shoulder massage or a mani/pedi. I called up to book this to be told that we were already booked in for a back, neck and shoulder massage at 3:45PM which was odd but suited as that is what we wanted. The massage itself was mediocre - the room had AC that was turned off at the start of my massage and the music was so low I could hear my therapist breathing and I was sweating. My husband said his room had no music whatsoever. The evening meal was delicious in their main restaurant. With the £80 credit our meal was fully covered. Overall, we would definitely go back and do an overnight stay or a spa break. I would probably avoid a massage as looking at the cost I don’t think they live up to their expectations.

I stayed in the hotel for 4 days (3 nights) last week during a residential training course. After the first day's training, I went into my room for a nap, and when I woke up, I discovered several bites on my right leg. This was the beginning of a series of issues that made my stay extremely unpleasant. I noticed a half-full bottle of water left by the previous guest, the towels were dirty, the shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel bottles were all unsealed and half-used. After discussing with family members who showed the picture of the bites to doctors, the bites were likely bed bug bites, and I requested a room change in the morning. Initially, my request was denied as the reception claimed that all rooms were fully booked. It was only after escalating to the manager that I was granted a room change, but the General Manager was not informed, and my previous room was cleaned for the next guest. This is the first time in my life to get bed bug bites, and I didn't expect how bad the symptoms could develop (see pics). The bites develop over the next few days when I had to stay in the hotel for the training course and continues afterwards. Another participant from the training who stayed in the hotel also got bitten, on the the top of the right arm and neck. On the fourth morning, after my insistence, the General Manager was finally informed, and pest control was called in for an investigation, however, only scheduled in 3 days on the following Monday. The General Manager claimed that bed bugs happen in hotels, and they appear mostly on the chest, and after that I found it hard to proceed the conversation with him... He promised to come back on this reported issue but never did. Very disappointing.

After reading mixed reviews i was a bit sceptical about staying here, however, myself and my partner had the most relaxing overnight stay! Check in was very efficient, the room was clean and spacious, service excellent at dinner, spa area was lovely and relaxing (highly recommend the facial!) - cannot wait to return!
