I stayed on two separate nights that bookended a trip further north. The first night I stayed in a Queen room on the ground floor that had been clearly refurbished. It was clean and quite modern relative to the basic surroundings of the lobby and corridors. On the strength of that I book a second night for my return to Whitehorse. I only had the option of a double on the second floor. It was extremely old, bathroom fan that droned through the night, a single lamp that worked. Bathroom showed its age was not particularly clean and had a constant noxious drain smell. Mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable. Despite my impending afternoon flight I checked out at 7:30 am, without showering. In the refurbished room, there was a slip with a pen asking 'what can we do better?'. Notably this was missing from the room where they could have done way better. I actually wondered if the ground floor was run by a different than the upper. Sketchy policy on taking your credit card for 'incidentals' when there was no mini-bar or room service - it was 'in case of damage' I was told. This was only applied to the second stay - leading me again to ask in my head - are the two floors operated by different companies. Whitehorse hotels are expensive so if you do decide to stay, ask for a ground floor refurbished queen - and find out for me if there are two companies running entirely different operations in the building...
