Excellent base for a visit to Whitby and surrounding area. We were two couples making another of many visits to Yorkshire but not to Whitby before. It's a lovely town, plenty of charm and history and spectacular views of the North Sea coast. The staff at the Dolphin were great and were very helpful with suggestions on places to go and see. Special thanks to Tom, who welcomed us on our arrival. The breakfast was also worthy of special mention.

Stayed overnight last Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it . Right from arrival we felt at home We were greeted by Owen who was friendly and efficient . The room (5) was very nice and comfortable. We went down for breakfast and Julie was so lovely and attentive and so very friendly . We will definitely be back .

We stayed last night with our brother and sister in law. Check in was easy, staff friendly and welcoming. However, our room absolutely stank of fried food. The whole place needs a good clean and airing. I couldn’t sleep for the smell it was so overpowering. Absolutely awful, I won’t stay here again. We’ve had to wash our all of our belonging this evening, even our coats and my partners best suit all absolutely stink to the end of the earth of old frying oil. We all felt ill at breakfast with it. Definitely need to improve the hygiene standards here.

Another lovely stay at The Dolphin (as always!)-Room 2 has the most amazing views over the harbour & it is lovely to just sit at the window (preferably with a glass of wine to hand! lol) & just "people watch" Lovely comfortable bed & an excellent freshly cooked breakfast is provided every morning accompanied with fruit juice, yoghurt & fresh pastries etc. Hosts Sim & Gary really make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive as did all the lovely staff in fact (in contrast to one or two recent reviews suggesting otherwise) as that was most certainly not our experience when staying at The Dolphin! Hope to see you all in 2025!

At 2:40pm. On the 11th of November, me and my mum and I walked in thinking we would come in and spend an hour after shopping. We noticed one staff member stocking the fridges, and he didn't get up to serve us for what seemed a long time. When he did eventually get up, he had both eyes on the telly while mumbling rudely "what do you want?" He was really rude and unpleasant, so we left immediately. I hope they sort this out because we felt like an inconvenience to him.

We read the reviews for here and thought it would be good for dinner. Sadly that was not our experience. The mozzarella loaded chips was very poor but my husband’s food was the worst by far. They first forgot his chips so he had to go and ask for them. Then his lasagne was stone cold in the middle, so he had to send it back. All they did was stick it back in the microwave for a few more minutes. The garlic bread was also clearly done in the microwave as it was so tough I couldn’t even tear it with my teeth. The view in the window was nice, but I feel the prices are really elevated, the drinks in particular, based on the location.

The hotel itself was lovely. Spacious rooms fully equipped with everything you need and a great breakfast. What let it down was the customer service on the day and evening we arrived. The Manager just stood eating a sausage roll behind the bar not helping the young girl serving and not even a hello while I was waiting to collect my room key while my young son and elderly mother in law waited amongst a packed bar. My partner was ignored on numerous occasions later in the evening when he went to buy drinks and find out the Wi-Fi code. The young bar staff were too busy talking amongst themselves. The lady who served us at breakfast time was friendly and helpful. What a shame but just not good enough particularly with the standard I expected with the expensive price of the rooms!

I rated it as being a couple’s hotel, but it could fit most kinds of people. From the outside you look and it seems to be a rundown bar, but the instant one of the staff talk to you feel right at home. It’s a long way up the stairs but the rooms are totally worthy. Breakfast is quite nice, you chose your own cereal and juice, then you get toast, coffee and your main meal cooked by the amazing chef. Another nice time to come is dinner for there delicious fish and chips.

Nice hotel in the centre of town next to swing bridge. Room was good, clean and contained tea making facilities, hair dryer, etc, also water and fresh milk. Lunch and breakfast excellent and staff very helpful and friendly. Parking was not easy as Whitby very busy and the closest car park was full so we parked by the station and walked over bridge to hotel.
