Russell Hotel

Issue with 1st room manager moved us straight away. Great hotel position for beach, town, buses and nice walks. We got moved to new room, great shower and very comfy bed. Food was very good, only complaint was toast often burnt. Entertainment very good. We will return. Staff work very hard. Great manager.

Went on a five day break with Daish Travel , most of the hotel has just been refurbished, it was excellent, the staff, the room , The food, I AM GLUTEN FREE, So had to pre arrange my food , which was excellent, good choice,every day , ,you also have the option to go through a middle door into the Prince Regent Hotel next door , Both hotels have good evening entertainment,with the Regent having a massive dance floor ,and beautiful architecture, superbly decorated , both hotels had 2 nights half price bar , and great coffee shops !

My husband and I went to Weymouth last week for a 4 night break. It was superb, just as we expected. I think some of the negative reviews written on here must be done by some VERY critical people; I'm not sure why they would do this. Maybe it is their hobby! The Russell does need some updating but why focus on this, including negative photos? It would be nice to have a new "Russell" blind at the front as that makes the hotel look shabby and yes, some of the windows could do with painting but this didn't deter from having a great holiday. The location is great overlooking the sea, with a bus stop outside and the hotel is very cosy/we were never cold; the food is top rate in every way, with so much choice and happy staff who look like they enjoyed working there. It was served very hot and promptly so not one thing to complain about. The logistics of running a big hotel like that must be enormous but Savio is a top rate manager. Wi-Fi is good in the lounge but we used 4g in our top floor bedroom. It would be helpful to have some basic ladies toiletries on sale. The entertainment on Monday and Wednesday was SO loud we had to go upstairs; it was too loud to chat to new-found friends. When "Elvis" asked for a request, someone said "please play much quieter". On Tuesday and Thursday, the music was great with perfect volume and a variety of wonderful old songs. The coach itself was very comfortable and we couldn't fault the driver, Steve. Our pick up and drop off times were late at Victoria but everything evened out going, and we arrived at Weymouth in good time. Our weather was perfect all week; a little cloud but overall, sunny. All the town of Weymouth is flat with lots of paths, along the front to the east and the west. Radipole Lake, a RSPB reserve is within 15 minutes walk of the hotel. Here's to our next Shearings holiday!

Having read reviews of The Russell, my expectations were low but, considering the low price, was prepared to give it a go. The pickup and travel, with a comfort break was good. Check in was friendly and quick...admittedly was one of the first off the coach. The room was a single, with single bed, as expected, and sadly the decor and furnishings were as expected, very shabby and tired. No amount of cleaning would ever make the room feel clean. The bed was very comfy though. I understand that refurbishment of the hotel is in progress. Weirdly, even with the heating off and the window open all night, the room, 130, was warm all the time, which I couldn't cope with. I spoke to reception and they cheerfully and quickly, gave me another room, still shabby but had a seaview...and sea breeze! I greatly appreciated being able to change. I had an issue with no power in the room a couple of days later and the maintenance men came out in 15 minutes and sorted it. Great service. The food was plentiful and good. The dining room staff were amazing, always rushed off their feet but always cheerful and keen to make sure the guests were looked after. A big shout out to Dan...loved his helpfulness and banter. The bar staff were great too. All the staff definitely made up for the shabby rooms and I hope they are appreciated. I'm sure I will return to The Russell again but, not until all the rooms have been refurbished. Meanwhile, I will be booking another Daish holiday to a different location.

Another enjoyable holiday with Daish. Had double room as single, walk in shower lots of room, drawers etc. Bed a little uncomfortable, reception had overlay put on , a little better. Evening entertainment very good, lots joined in with singing and dancing.

The only thing keeping this hotel afloat is the restaurant staff ! The room was like staying in your granny’s room that has not been used for a few years, poor bathroom facilities and not very clean. Everything is done on the cheap, just a step up from a “ boarding house “ Daish’s seem to choose a really good location and that is all their hotels have going for them, always under staffed and cheap food. I will definitely not be using any of their hotels again. Don’t stay here if you have mobility problems, everywhere has stairs but only one lift.
