Not Worth It Wooden spoon for this hotel. Way too expensive for a room stuck next to the lift shaft, with constant noise from plumbing above. Staff didn’t want to hear about it. Yes, the bedding, food, and service are decent — but if you can’t sleep, who cares? Wouldn’t stay again.

Ellie and I visited the stunning Wood Hall in April for an Easter getaway. The Hall is set in rolling hills and the location offers a calm base for any weary travellers. Upon entering the hotel, we were met by Ellis who's warm smile welcomed us in as she conducted a swift and troublefree check in. We moved up to the room which was well kept, clean and far from tired. Once we had dropped our bags off, we explored the venue sampling the the offering of black sheep on the terrace. Their IPA was a great accompaniment to the sun and tranquility that the terrace offered... I'm not sure if they can contract sunshine at Wood Hall, but I am certain they would try given the chance. After our first night, we came down for breakfast and were extremely well looked after by the breakfast manager sampling the continental and cooked elements of their menu. Both were very good, and if I had to criticize, then I would add that the salmon and poached egg was minimal, but upon reviewing the menu, I had chosen a low calorie option. Either way, I filled the void with another croissant which isn't the worst compromise if you ask me. We headed to the spa and tried out a pre booked massage with Katie. The massage was thorough and removed any final thoughts of stress that were lurking. I think it was well priced and well worth investigating. We then moved through to the pool, steam room and jacuzzi - all fairly well kept. The steam room needs a little bit of tlc, but it won't ruin your trip. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend visiting Wood Hall. Further, the whole team honestly made us feel like nothing was too much to ask. We stayed for one night as part of our travels round Yorkshire. First impression was very good and the hotel looked beautiful. We did have to wait around at reception for a while, until someone spotted us. Welcome Prosecco was nice to receive. We used the spa and pool area, which was very clean and pleasant, and relatively quiet. Chatted to several people there who were gym members. The room was nice, but did feel rather dull. I was disappointed to find there were no nice toiletries and not even shower gel! I thought it had been forgotten about so I phoned the receptionist who said she’d get some, then she phoned me back to say they don’t do it- how bizarre!! I was frustrated about that and can’t believe a 5 star hotel wouldn’t have shower gel or hand wash (only a soap bar) but the manager confirmed the next day that there had been recent changes and they now don’t do it . Another annoyance was that there weren’t any bath robes. Small issues I know, but when you’re just there to chill, those items are expected from a 5 star hotel. Anyway, the breakfast was good quality and all staff we met were polite and helpful. Although the stay was nice enough, we wouldn’t go back and we enjoyed our stay at Middlethorpe Manor (20 mins away) more - and they had nice,fluffy robes and Penhaligon toiletries! Ha ha.

We have stayed here several times, it is our favourite local escape. We have never been disappointed and this occasion was no different. I booked our stay to celebrate my husband’s birthday and it was wonderful. One of the things we love about Wood Hall is the staff. They are a truly amazing bunch, nothing is too much trouble and they make us feel special every time we visit. On this occasion we were treated like royalty and it will be a birthday to remember. I am already planning our next visit!

I had a spa membership with this hotel, unfortunately their steam room was out of work in November and as of that , they issued some vouchers as apology, I have never get mine, whenever I have called them , they passed it to managers with not any responses at the end, I have spent lots of time travelling from home to them to speak face to face still no responses after 4 months. It’s not hard to issue an A5 paper voucher for your members!! Even whenever I’ve been told it will be ready to collect soon , it wasn’t and I’ve been ignored by the staff member. Not really happy 👎 👎👎👎👎

A beautiful hotel in a stunning setting. We were able to enjoy a walk from the hotel with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Extremely welcoming staff and lovely room with very comfortable beds. Unlimited use of the spa was a great bonus. Thank you for making our stay so memorable.
