The Waterside Hotel

We had a nice stay at The Waterside and a nice experience at the Thermal suite before we checked in. The room was great, clean and a nice view of Arran so all good. The dining experience was not so good. While the food was lovely the service was extremely slow. We did not get our drinks until at the end of the starter and even coffee at the end took a very long time to arrive. I also got a water glass that had some sticky red syrup or something like that on it. At the breakfast buffet I had to put several plates to the side before I got a plate that looked clean. I had a similar experience with the cereal bowls. The table was also dirty from previous diners. In summary a lovely stay let down by slow service and dirty crockery. We would stay again but would think twice about dining.

On a rare Scottish spectacular sunny day, the location of this place cannot be argued with, HOWEVER.................... having eaten in here many, many times over the years this was, by far, the worst experience I have encountered here. What was meant to be a celebratory afternoon with friends resulted in a complete deflation on our energy. We felt completely forgotten about, slow service, some poor quality food, poorly displayed plates (prawn tempura with zero garnish) and all in all we were were so bittery disappointed by the whole experience. Erin a lovely waitress who is a credit to the organisation did offer "me" (there were 6 of us though) a complimentary drink which I did take but do be completey honest as nice as the gesture was, it was too little too late at that point. Normally we would have had desserts and coffee but not this time. We were advised that there was a staff issue but to be honest, that's not the customer's problem,any staffing issues should have been invisible to us. Sorry Simpsons, this is just not what we have become accustomed to!

Went for an impromptu lunch with family (4people) Stood at the Please wait here sign. 3 staff passed us, and not one could say hello , someone will be with you in a moment. Two of the party ordered waffles, waited 17mins (the place wasn't too busy) enquired with a waitress about the waffles, they are not on your order (looking at an electronic pad) Thats fine, may we have the bill please. Paid and left, passed the entrance area, plenty staff but no one said thank you for coming or goodbye. A few lessons to be learned in hospitality

the meals were great ,went there twice 2 nights running,,the chefs soups were great esp the carrot and syrup ,sounds crazy but it was actually great,also the service from our 2 waitresses were spot on and the views were lovely ,would defo go back here .Pete and Mum

Restaurant visit only. More than a bit disappointed with the overall visit. Staff were pleasant and friendly but the food was disappointing. Firstly they only have Pepsi as a soft drink no coke which is very odd for a place of this size. Only one type of soup on offer which was mushroom which few people would opt for. The main corse of steak pie was very good but far too small a portion of mash with it for the price they are asking. The dessert was awful worst attempt at a cheesecake I’ve ever had. Location and surroundings are excellent but they need to do much better with the food for the high price they are asking. Had much better food at a lot lower prices.

A lovely welcome from the reception staff. Rooms were large and very clean with a beautiful view across the Firth of Clyde. Comfortable beds although pillows a little flat and lumpy but not a show stopper. Eat in the restaurant and enjoyed great service and excellent food. Breakfast was cooked to order with a plentiful buffet of toast, cereal and pastries to keep you going til the main event. A little pricey but in keeping with the are and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area
