Welwyn Garden City

I booked this Hotel as a stop over to break up a long trip, there was no sign outside, the nice cream building on the right in the picture is not so in real life, it is closed and looks run down, as does the car park, in fact I was very disappointed with this Hotel, to add insult to injury there was no one on the desk and I had to use those self check in kiosks, which played up. The reception staff were hidden in the office every time i went in and out, the room was in desperate need of a make over, it was cold, there was no bath only a shower. There is no way I will be staying here again, certainly not what I have experienced before with Premier Inn, which is the Hotel chain of my choice, I have stopped at better Travelodge's in the past.

Noisy room next to very, very busy railway line. Kids running up and down corridors till late hours. Evening meal just overpriced, low quality, microwaved stuff that inexplicably takes over 40 minutes to arrive. The table next to mine never got theirs. No proper cooked food. Breakfast a total farce. No sausages, no mushrooms, no bacon. Run out of milk and orange juice!! I stay in premier inns every week. Never agian will i use this place. And to top it all, staff saying "its not my fault"! Well, its certainly not mine....

The accommodation is Premier Inn…once in the room you can be anywhere in the country unless you look out the window…same with all the big corporates. So….why choose any of them? Cost, availability, service… I didn’t pay for this place, work did…meal allowance for the night before and breakfast included. Now…a bit of a declaration, I’m trying to avoid seed oils, just a health thing (worth looking up) so it’s easier to have poached eggs certainly for breakfast and I asked in advance if I could have them for and evening meal…Hell I even brought a dozen not wanting to dent their supplies as a courtesy to staff and other customers! Last night I made the order, I waited….nearly half an hour…nothing turned up. I made my apologies to the staff and left as I needed to go to work and the arrival time of some poached eggs could not be given. No problem, the place was busy and mine was an off menu request and I’m hopefully a reasonable guy…no one died! This morning, towards the end of the break fast serving time when the place had maybe six diners already eating from the stocked buffet breakfast, I rock up again…may I have poached eggs please? Certainly, “I’ll he order them for you now…” and off goes the (as I now know to be” the duty manager into the kitchen and returns saying that the order is placed and will be out shortly. Note: only one in the kitchen and one booking people into the restaurant areas and looking after that area. 25 minutes later, tea drunk, still no eggs…sounds of pots and pans I suspect being put away, chef seen wandering about…no top ups to the buffet and no eggs…now no staff in restaurant so off to reception I go and explain all, manager called, another few minutes spent waiting for their arrival, then the explanation/apology/admin…I go back to table to pick up room card…still no eggs. Over half an hour in a now nearly empty restaurant to NOT provide poached eggs??? Now…let’s not go crazy over this, I’m a big boy, it ain’t that I missed out on breakfast…I’m walking into town, I’ll get it elsewhere. It ain’t even that I have a downer on the staff…they are doing their best. My beef is with the senior management who have squeezed the staffing lemon so hard that there’s no longer any juice and I don’t have to stay here…in short I will be searching for alternatives!’

Customer service was disgrace could not check in early was not allowed but on website it said I could at 11am if I paid 15 pound so had to wait for 4 hours till I could check in got given 2 different rooms one card wouldn't open the room told sorry not ur room then 2nd was where it was not ready and 3rd was where bathroom was disgrace sink blocked with dirty water then got given compensation for breakfast which did not have as no staff around

Sofie was amazing, so attentive, very good her job, would come back just to see her smile. Beer was cold.. was packed, great vibe, the decor modern and fresh. The fairy lights add a special touch. Air con is crazy good. The chairs are very comfy and burnt orange.

This is my favourite business hotel as well as leisure hotel when visiting family, and it never disappoints. A good night's sleep, comfortable standardised rooms so you always know what you're going to get, excellent business wif-fi and a great English breakfast or continental, whichever you prefer. This morning's breakfast was cooked and presented by Prisca, a warm welcoming woman with a gorgeous smile. The perfect way to start your day!
