We were riding the north island tour Aotearoa in April 2025. As we were crossing the Kaipara harbour we had to find accommodation close by as the boat was delayed by 3 hours. We reserved one of the amazing cottages at the Vineyard. The owners were the firs ones to establish the Sauvignon Blanc variety in New Zealand. By the time we reached the place it was dark, cold we were exhausted. After an amazing reception with nothing less that the young lady in charge waiting for us in the courtyard , what a delight to enter the cottage. Built in recent years and copying the old style cottage our place was luxurious, warm, well appointed. The light was just enough to create an amazing ambiance. The table was set and a gigantic bowl of soup, a cheese platter, a basket of fresh bread and fruits were there for us who were just starving. Further to get in touch with Ellen and explaining the issue of a late arrival, the fact we were on bikes , the lack of facilities to carry any food, she did it all. And man this was spectacular. The quality of the entire meal was top notch, it was tasty, well prepared and in large quantity. We could not have dreamed of anything better. The accommodation was very cosy, comfortable. We had one of the best night of a 25 days trip through the North Island. The welcoming was exceptional, the service 5 stars. If you get around and close to Ellen's place at the Vineyard cottage, if you want luxurty at a very moderate rate, and a very professional service, please book it. Ellen and her team deserve all accolades.
