Quinta do Vallado - Douro Wine Hotel

A nice hotel, but not a luxury hotel. The grounds were lovely, as was the pool and "pool side" restaurant. The main dining area provided a hearty breakfast, but the climb up from the parking lot was tiring. There was an elevator, but it was extremely slow. There was a serve yourself honor bar in the main building, which was nice, and we were greeted with a bottle of port, other ingredients, and directions for a spritzer when we arrived. They had a vegetable garden where they grew their ingredients for dinner, which was quite interesting.

Great tour - Jennifer was so knowledgeable and did a fantastic job explaining the process and history of the winery and Douro valley generally.

Marcos was an excellent tour guide, providing interesting information and answering all our questions with ease. We highly recommend this tour. The virtual reality part was fun and made us feel that we were right there for the winemaking process.

I read so much nice reviews of this place and put this place on the last itinerary. Thinking is a great way to end for my husband’s 70th. I booked this place a year in advance, trying to understand which is the nicest room and whether they’ve a gym. Nearing to the stay, received email of the property’s dinner menu. It seems a big thing of their dinner as they keep sending and asking even though I replied each time saying dinner is too late, can they help to put it at 6pm for us as we like to head off early for hiking. Unfortunately no. On the day of check in, I’ve already told them I’m in Porto and hope my room can be ready about 1pm? Reply is also always the same, “cannot confirm”, check in time is after 3pm. On the day of check in, again I received email at 12pm on their dinner menu and asking us our ETA to their property. I told them we’re just wondering aimlessly in Porto and can we drop by 2pm so room is ready? Reply is still the same “cannot confirm at their end at even though is already 12pm. Arrival checked in was swift and easy. Property is well maintained and their gym though super small and not very clean is 24hrs. You can just go in and switched on the lights and heater/air con. They’ve a spa area which you have to book 1 hr just for yourself. Is nice gesture since there’s nothing much to do if it rains all day here. We had the Master Suite, is spacious but not easy for anyone who needs to work on their laptop. Also a shame this room faces amazing views but there’s no way you can open up this place to look at the view once you’re inside unless you open up your main door. Bathroom is just a bathtub with shower jets so not so good for older people who have difficulty climbing in and out of bathtub. The tap of the sink in bathroom is also too high, it splashes onto you when you wash your hands. Good thing is the lighting of this room one switch and room is bright! unlike many hotels you struggle with their lights and always dark. Breakfast does not have lots of selection but all good quality and is enough. Breakfast waitress are the most smiley and pleasant in this property. Always cheerful and happy. Wine tasting complimentary for each guest is good. Their wine bar is great, you go and pour yourself whatever you want and write your room number. No Uber here, so you have to get reception to call a taxi each time you want to head out, and only takes 10minutes. The railway station is about 10 Euro in taxi and lots of nice restaurants, don’t need to be constraint by the property’s fixed menu dinner. Overall is a lovely place if you want something different from a standard good hotel.

We will be back One of the best stays ever and that includes some 5 star hotels in US and Spain, plus the wine is excellent!

Quinta do Vallado was probably the best accommodation experience my wife and I have ever had. The location and facilities, as well as the option to choose from their fully restored original suites as well as the new hotel facility was amazing (we opted for the original suites and loved it). The staff were incredibly friendly and professional and ensured every aspect of our stay was perfect. The breakfast buffet each morning was amazing, and I highly recommend anyone dines with Vallado for dinner at least one night during their stay; their food is amazing. Also can’t beat the immediate access to the vineyard and their products as well. My wife and I certainly plan to return; it was truly an unforgettable experience!
