Relais San Giuliano

I am staying here in this hotel right now and at first I can say I was surprised by the beautiful garden and it's building, it's from 17th century and really charming but when I went to our room I wasn't really happy with the setting especially the bathroom because there is no hanger for the towels and the air conditioning in the room doesn't work properly so the room becomes really humid after taking a shower. Another thing that really shocked us was the small lava stones rain from Mont Etna's volcano that falls on you and it really shocked us because apparently it's really common here and they didn't mention it at all on their website. So, we had to take a shower right away because there were small rocks in our hair and we couldn't use the swimming pool because it's covered with tiny black pebbles all over the pool. Since it's a bit far from Taormina( 55 minutes drive) you have nothing to do here and having a closed pool it's not fun for a family with two kids. Breakfast was really basic, mostly sweets and they don't have any kind of eggs, if you want you have to order a la carts with extra charge. At first I thought this property can become part of Relais et chateaux but it's far away from their standards.

A wonderful example of professionalism in hospitality! Immaculate in every way with attention to detail on every level. It’s an oasis of calm, where guests can relax without intrusion. The staff are so considerate …housekeeping, restaurant, front of house…they all know instinctively! The restaurants are quite incredible, with Il Palici providing us with the best dining experience ever. I could continue, but less is more! Don’t hesitate to book you stay here.

I have to be honest though, staffs are really nice and helpful and we had a dinner at their more casual restaurant and food was really delicious. At first I thought this property can become part of Relais et chateaux but I think it misses a lot of their standards .
