Elixir Cliff Beach Resort and Spa

The beach view from the room is absolutely amazing and truly the highlight of the stay. However, the room itself needs painting and refurbishing, as there’s quite a bit of maintenance work pending. Considering the condition of the room, the price feels quite high. The buffet breakfast was also disappointing and did not meet expectations.

Sweet staff, good food, clean room: everything else was betweeen below average and disgusting: flies in resteraunt badly kept premises booze bottles and plastic cups laying around at night - not cleaned till 8 am pool looks clean - water tastes wierd towels from the night before lying on floor in the mud walkway to beach : never cleaned littered with plastic ugh- never coming back

Stayed from 30th to 31st January 2025. The hotel’s 5-star claim is laughable—it barely deserves 1 star, and that’s only for breakfast and high tea. Here’s why: 1. Abysmal Service (0 Stars): Service was agonizingly slow. Reported a dirty bathroom, and the receptionist just smiled and left—no action, no apology. 2. Terrible Rooms & Maintenance (0 Stars): Outdated furniture, wobbly fans that felt like they’d fall, and broken locks. The so-called 'sea view' is just a distant glimpse. A proper view requires descending a steep, unsafe path that’s hazardous for seniors. 3. Filthy Bathrooms (0 Stars): Stained toilets—clearly uncleaned before our stay. Hot water required repeated calls and staff 'jugaad' to work. 4. Rude, Clueless Staff (0 Stars): At check-in, they falsely claimed our payment wasn’t received and made us resolve it with Dream Holidays instead of verifying themselves. Staff were arrogant, untrained, and unprofessional. 5. Overpriced, Tasteless Food (⭐): ₹200 for a basic fruit salad without ice cream—ridiculously overpriced. The only highlights: a decent breakfast spread and complimentary high tea (tea with biscuits and pakodas). Final Verdict: This hotel is a scam hiding behind a 5-star label. It offers only disappointment—from service to rooms to staff behavior. **Overall Rating: ⭐⭐ (1 Star)—More than they deserve!

This hotel was the worst of the 10 hotels we stayed at during our 17 day trip. The other hotels were all 8+/10 this was a 3/10. Staff were unfriendly and the least welcoming we experienced. The hotel had 100 police staying with very loud music playing from our arrival to 11pm and they started singing loudly at 7am. There was mess from food left lying around for hours attracting crows, the crows would knock glasses over on the tables to get the remnants, in the end we picked them up and returned them before they smashed. Rooms tired, bathroom blind covered in mould. Air conditioning very noisy and not very effective. DISGUSTING pool towels that were filthy and in desperate need of a wash - fortunately we had our own. The pool steps were located nearest the cliff which ment walking around the narrow edge, this was a problem as the tiles surrounding the pool were broken/loose in places so we didn't trust the ledge to get to the steps. Breakfast started at 08:30 and we needed to leave before then. We complained to our travel agent about the noise and they reassured us it would not be happening on our second day and someone would come and discuss our concerns, we were not approached by anyone....I believe the travel agent has now written to them and are no longer using this hotel. On a positive they rang for a tuk tuk to take us to Varkala Cliff so we could eat out, enjoyed both meals at Clafoutis. The cafe next to the hotel also did a fantastic breakfast as we didn't fancy sharing breakfast time with all the police. The beach was nice and we enjoyed swimming in the sea with the waves.

How this hotel is rated what it is is beyond me. Probably worst hotel i've stayed in anywhere in India. Only there for 2 days otherwise would have just left. Do not be fooled by the photos. Issues include 1. Bedding and towels are an interesting shade of yellow (once white) 2. Old dirty mattresses in the corridors (see photo) 3. Pool floor has numerous missing and broken tiles 4. Ladder / steps into the pool are broken and discarded to side of pool 5. Garden furniture is old filthy plastic chairs 6. The cabanas are just about held together by rotten wood (see photo) 7. The clean pool towels are stained (see photo) 8. No safety deposit boxes in room or on offer (5 star?) 9. If its metal its rusty, if its wood its rotten, if its material it is filthy 10. Breakfast room is like a cheap service station with the most laughable selection 11. Reception staff going through the motions - hardly said a word 12. Rest of staff i think just given up 13. Came back one night and someone had been in the room and put up a camp bed in the room. No one had a clue why or who! etc Pro Cafe Trip is Life is virtually next door - perfect for breakfast

Do not be fooled, this hotel is not at all like the web site pictures. The one star review is for the view and beach only. It is a very very run down and dirty hotel. The swimming pool should be closed because it's a health hazard, filthy dirty broken tiles all over the base, no ladder into the pool (just broken and left on the side. The restaurant area is like a dirty truckers cafe. Poor english, but not unfriendly, I felt a bit sorry for the staff, they have a horrible property to try and maintain, customers must be so upset all the time. We stayed the night because we couldn't arrange anything else but checked out the following morning. When I pointed out the issues with the property,they at least accepted my complaints and refunded the remainder of my stay. I now understand why they asked for full payment in advance! To be 100% fair and objective, the beach view and beach are very nice, although a horrible dirty passage down from the hotel to the beach. We ate a couple of things from the restaurant, which were reasonable. We had the junior suite, which was big and clean although a bit basic. There is nothing around the area and it also very run down. Sorry to say if this is the best Varkala has to offer then I recommend you strike it from your bucket list.
