Guest House de la Valette

Great roof top suite. The guest house is on a bustling street with live music most nights. The roof top is on the 5th floor - so the music has lost it's power by then. The suite is spacious with a seating area - and the terrasse is quite large (with a hot tub which we did not use). Lots of light came in - as the full wall to the terrasse was glass. I would not recommend to have the breakfast included - it was a very disappointing experience with lack of food and poor service. We decided to only go the first day, and otherwise get breakfast somewhere else. Also note that the breakfast is a 7-10 min walk away. The low rating is purely due to the poor breakfast.

We had reserved our accommodation at "De La Valette" (Merchant str.) through a travel agency in Thessaloniki Greece. The hotel is in the heart of Valetta (Merchant street 191) and in close distance to many sights. It was the ONLY hotel/guest house that the rooms don't have an opening to fresh air (all the Standard rooms look into the inner space, just above the ground floor restaurant open air space). By entering in our room (207) we noticed a big mold mark on the wall and the ceiling. In addition there was a very intensive smell in our bathroom, coming from the restaurant below. Also the refrigerator was not working. When we complained to the front desk, asking to consider changing our room, we were told that there are no available rooms and our only option was to file a complaint to the Management, which would be able to respond on Monday. All these, resulted to receive a very low level of service, comparing to the cost of our accommodation Unfortunately these conditions didn't allow us to enjoy our stay in this hotel.

Very noisy. The hotel is located in the middle of a busy street full of restaurants and bars. Eater pressure not good. Smell of fish and meat because of the restaurant located in the ground floor. Breakfast is awful... tbh I was disappointed. The only good thing about this place is the location in the heart of Valetta.

I have been a business traveller for 25 years. In that time I must say I have never stayed in such a dirty, unhealthy room. Even though the price I paid was 100 Euros per night. The room had no windows. Mould was rife. The wall by the sink was caked in dirt. The air conditioner had no filter so it just circulated the mould and stank terribly. When I raised the issues I was told that I should have booked a superior room which were ok. I was promised a new room but this never transpired. I can imagine this might be hard to believe which is why I am adding photos. All in all a really disgusting experience.

My King room was comfortable, mostly clean but on arrival there were ANTS in the bathroom. I did not have a window which was ok for me as street would have been noisy. However you can still hear the restaurant's kitchen staff making noise late into the evening. There is no lobby or dining room - breakfast was a paper bag with a croissant, yoghurt, bottle of juice and piece of fruit delivered outside your door at 8am. And you don't get one on your day of departure! Never experienced that before - stayed 3 nights only 2 breakfasts?! The location is good, but Valletta itself is small so you could stay pretty much anywhere in the old town and be close to amenities and sites. Malta and Valletta were wonderful but I would not stay in that hotel again for the same price.

I punti di forza di questa struttura sono la posizione centralissima e il prezzo un po' inferiore a quello di altre soluzioni limitrofe. Il prezzo competitivo si traduce però in un servizio non adeguato. Il primo impatto non è positivo perchè l'ingresso è condiviso con il ristorante sottostante e si entra in una specie di corridoio utilizzato dal ristorante come ripostiglio per bombole e altri oggetti e talvolta da appoggio per i piatti sporchi appena ritirati dai tavoli; in un angolo buio c'è la reception costituita da un solo banco polveroso. Le stanze affacciano su cortile interno, che rappresenta anche l'accesso alla cucina del ristorante. A disturbare non è tanto l'odore di pesce (che si sente ma non è nemmeno troppo eccessivo) quanto il rumore che in alcune sere è continuato fino a mezzanotte. La stanza inoltre non aveva finestre oltre alla porta-finestra di accesso e quindi risultava calda e con poco ricambio d'aria. Era presenta l'aria condizionata ma non era regolabile: o accesa a temperatura eccessivamente bassa, o spenta. La pulizia è accettabile ma poteva essere curata meglio. Abbiamo avuto parecchi disguidi con il cambio degli asciugamani: alcuni giorni non sono stati cambiati, in altri sono stati ritirati quelli usati ma non sostituiti; fortunatamente siamo rientrati quando la reception era ancora aperta e siamo riusciti a ottenerne di nuovi. Un giorno la stanza non è stata pulita del tutto. Nel complesso, non lo consiglio.
