Over the past 25 years I've been staying in number of Plava Laguna's hotels including Hotel Umag for my work, and on vacations with my family. I would characterize this hotel chain with a word "convenient" – providing relatively decent ratio of services and prices. Same goes for Hotel Umag. Rooms are equipped with cheap furniture, but are overall decent, and good size. Food is average at most; on the scale of 1 (insufficient) to 5 (excellent), I would rate it with minus 3. Nevertheless, there is enough choice, so unless you are really picky, I believe you can find something that you will like. What we really liked is that hotel is located right on the beach, with sunbeds and beach towels which are free of charge. The beach in front of hotel is paved, with rocks inside the sea, so not perfect for small kids, but two minutes walk away towards the Hotel Sipar (which also belongs to Plava Laguna), there is a small sand beach. Some staff obviously needs more training/information, since we were forwarded between reception and the beach several times in order to finally get beach towels (we arrived around 5 PM, so there was nobody with the towels at the beach any more). Due to COVID restrictions it was not possible to use gym whenever you want to, and pre-booking was required. Since gym in very small and can fit just a few people anyway, it was actually much better to have it booked for an hour, than to just pop up there. There is an indoor swimming pool which may be convenient if the weather is not good. Outdoor swimming pool is decent size, but people tend to reserve sunbeds with their towels very early in the morning, so unless you do the same, you will be left without the sunbeds at the swimming pool for the rest of the day. At 9:00 AM there were just 6 people at the swimming pool, but all sunbeds were already taken, and mostly empty for several more hours. I believe this kind of conduct is not appropriate and should be addressed by hotel personnel in a way some other hotels are doing; if there is nobody on a sunbed for 30 minutes, towel is removed by hotel personnel. We were staying in the room overlooking garden, since they are quieter than those with sea view. At the sea side of the hotel there is a swimming pool with kids playing during the day, and the bar with music in the evening (although not too long), so if you are sensitive to this, choose the room at the opposite side of the hotel. So why do I give such a bad mark. Because I hope some of the hotel management will look into this review, and make sure that they train their staff so our experience (described bellow) does not repeat to other Croatian guests. What we really didn't find appropriate is the rude, unprofessional and uneducated behavior of the receptionist at our check out. On the web site of Plava Laguna you can find the following statement: "Plava Laguna is a proud partner of the e-Children's Card - Mudrica project implemented by the Central State Office for Demogra
