Medplaya Aparthotel Esmeraldas

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Esmereldaswhat an excellent hotel. We stayed in a 1 bedroomed apparent the seperate bedroom suits us well as i tend to wake early and can sit on the balcony and have a cuppa without disturbing the wife . The bathroom was perfect with a walk in shower that was really powerfull. The kitchen has a kettle and a filter coffee machine a microwave and a fridge with a freezer section there a a couple of cooking rings but we never used them. The balcony is massive with two canvas backed chairs with matching footstools and a table plus two extra plastic chairs. Pool is only small but its adequate always plenty of comfy loungers and a few parasols. We never ate at the hotel as we were room only . Rooms were kept nice and clean and towels changed regularly. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. All in all could not fault the place

We booked through Tui and it was excellent value. We had a studio on the 5 th floor (there are lifts) with a balcony on the poolside of the building (which from other reviews is the best side to have a room). We could see the pool, although in general the view isn’t great (back of apartments but not too close) and you can’t see the sea (although the balcony is nice and very sunny in the morning). The hotel itself is only a short walk from the shops, restaurants, beach, old town and castle. The studio had a well-equipped kitchen, modern bathroom with power shower, comfy beds and air con. It was all spotlessly clean. I swam everyday in the pool which was also well kept. We opted not to have the breakfast as preferred to prepare our own (the supermarkets are close by). Joao on reception was amazing. He is fluent in English, welcoming and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and he really is an asset to the company. Recommendations which we can verify as excellent choices include - Cafe D’en Biel for good food, music and location. The boat trip to the caves (discount voucher from reception) where they go in the caves and then drop you off at Cala Giverola - a great beach for a swim (boats run every 30 minutes). The little white train ride around Tossa de Mar is good - a bit bumpy but fun! Walking up through the old town and castle to the lighthouse - a nice walk (day and evening - do both) for good views and a bar at the top. We took the local bus to Girona - well worth a visit to the old town and magnificent cathedral. We also took a bus to Loret de Mar one morning - that was enough. Great if you’re 18 but not for us! Overall, if you want a good value holiday and like us don’t want the ‘all inclusive’, preferring more independence, then you can’t go wrong with Esmeraldas. It is good quality accommodation and a friendly service.

A lovely aparthotel, the staff were very nice, everyone of them. Very friendly and accommodating. The one bedroom apartment was spotless. Found it too small for three of us, but would be perfect for two. About a seven minute walk from beach, perfect location. The breakfast was continental, but suited our needs perfect. Plenty of everything. The only thing i didn't like was the bar/restaurant closed so early. No entertainment at night. Would have been nice to round off the day. But all in all we had a lovely stay and would return.

Stayed here for a week in a one bedroome apartment. Had a great room (505), top floor overlooking pool, very quiet. Nice sized balcony with table, chairs and footstools, clothes drier etc Kitchen area stocked with adequate utensils/crockery and complimentary washing up supplies. Comfy beds. Wifi good. Bathroom supplies were Dove products, hand-wash, bodywash and shampoo. My only negative comment was that the shower grouting (as with many hotels nearing end of season) needed attention, deep clean. The staff were all great, helpful and cheerful. Map given on arrival and some discount vouchers for the road train and a restaurant. 5-10 mins walk into centre, 15-20mins walk to beach/old town. Bus station 5 mins walk. Good supermarkets close-by. Market on next road to hotel every Thursday Overall a great stay.

We are currently staying in this hotel, it is the second day now. Can't give full review at this stage yet, however, just a quick note on something that might need to be considered before you choose this hotel, it is clean enough hotel for a 3 star, hotel is a bit boring, but the only reason that we choose this hotel is because in the reviews online that it is quiet hotel. We were going to use this hotel as a base to explore Tossa de mar. However, we have been assigned to a room that overlooks another hotel - it's across the street. This hotel has a large swimming pool and is full of activities day and night. There is a lot of noise which day and night. Me and my husband have not been sleeping well for the past two days. We have asked reception after the first night to change the room. They showed us a few rooms which were available to change on the day, however, they were on the same side of the hotel. It would not make much difference in terms of noise, so we declined. I asked could we move to other side of the hotel. Long story short, they told us it is possible to move to a room on the other side hotel the next day, so we had another sleepless night and all packed and ready to move, and when we ask about the room today, the guy in reception told us it is not possible. He said because someone else have been assigned the room to others even though he left a message about our room swap, and he told us if he try to swap us he will upset other important people, it looks like they have customers who is more important then us. This hotel have lost our only purpose for us to stay, and we are stuck in this room for next 5 days with loads of noise so, wish us luck, our holiday is partly ruined with lack of sleep, I don't think we will come to this hotel again, however, for anyone want to stay in this hotel, and want a quiet room, request pool side of the room before you come over. I will do an update review on Tossa de mar after our holiday.

I didn’t stay here in September 2023 but stayed at this hotel every year for two weeks with my parents from being very very young (over 13 years consistently) I was looking through these photos & see the bar man gorge is still there! I remember him having twins, they were very young & last time I was here I think 9 years ago we walked in and he recognised the grown up me (27 then & 36 now) The owners & staff were amazing, there was a bigger man who also worked here many years ago for many years & I forget his name now. This place treat you like family & im so happy to see the staff who contributed to my Spanish second home upbringing still here working happily. My dad and my mam loved this place, it was his second home. I’ve glanced through the reviews & it really makes me smile to no that this place is still thriving.
