Hotel El Icaco Tortuguero

The staff at this hotel are magnificent! They are incredibly friendly and accommodating. We stayed with a school group for 2 nights and they interacted with the students and adults as well. They got to know our names. The food was phenomenal!! We were hoping for authentic cooking and that's what we got! Rooms had A/C and hot water, pool was great!

Great value hotel in Great location right on the beach. Friendly staff, especially Joshua. They greeted us from the boat and arranged our tours with Carretta Tours who were also brilliant. Comfortable clean room, we had a deluxe with a/c very welcome in the heat! Lively little swimming pool ideal for cooling off after a hiking tour, great tasty breakfast gallo pinto or pancakes.

This hotel is a good option if you want to have something close to the beach and on a budget. It’s not that it’s not nice, but it is basic. We took a room with A/C which we found to be a good option because of the temperatures there. We loved the looks of the hotel, very colourful and happy. Only thing we were kinda disappointed about was when we were there the whole surfer and chill vibe wasn’t really there.. The pool was closed/in maintenance, and the outlook on the beach was mostly covers by bushes. We also didn’t see any hammock’s. So it didn’t really leave a reason to chill at the hotel…. For us it turned in just purely a spot to sleep, which we expected to be different. Maintenance isn’t a bad thing, but we didn’t know about anything. The hotel itself is located in a corner of the Tortuguero main island, so walking to a store or a restaurant takes a couple of minutes

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It is perfectly located in front of the sea, by the beach (you cannot swim there and they remind you so) away from the nice little village so it is very quiet. I had to change my booking date and they didn't charge me the extra night. They also come to welcome you at the dock to get you to the hotel, which is great service. The rooms are basic but with fan and good wifi to book the park entrance! The staff is super friendly and makes the stay extra special. I did the canoa tour with Roberto and it was great, he knew his stuff. Highly recommended. They also explained to us how to walk in the park and get to the Cerro Tortuguero, which is a must to see the sea, river and canals from up. The walk up is very easy, actually you climb stairs. Very recommended to get a real feel of Tortuguero and Costa RIca.

We stayed there for 2 nights. The hotel offers everything they tell in advance. We didn’t have any bad surprises. It has a great location as beach was literally 30 seconds away. Walking to the little port where you would arrive or where several tours would start takes only 6-7 minutes as well as many restaurants etc. It can be a lovely stay!

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel. The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast was also very tasty. The location right on the beach is perfect for walks in the morning and evening. We would definitely stay here again.
