Hotel has a great location - basically right on the ocean on one side, and on a river on the other. Couple minutes walk to the town's main street. The rooms are bare-bones and the bathrooms are old, but everything functioned. No A/C but I believe there was a ceiling fan. The pool was refreshing and it was pleasant to lay out on the lounge chairs. Staff was courteous. Recommended. Don't expect a 5* hotel, but I thought it made for an enjoyable two night stay.

Miss Junies location is superb with access from the waterway on the front, the Caribbean across the back yard, and within easy walking distance to town. The rooms aren't fancy, which I did not expect for the price and were clean. However, they definitely need some upkeep (our sink wasn't hooked securely to the pedestal). The best thing is the close easy access the Caribbean with a nice beach. The most disappointing aspect was customer service. We lost the key to our room (our bad), but the handling of the situation was atrocious. First, they claimed they did not have another key, and the ease with which they were able to unlock the door with a screw driver was very disconcerting. They did let us move to a different room after we insisted since this one could not be locked. There was a sign in the office that said there would be a $35 fee for a lost key. When we checked out, the office wasn't open, and the woman in charge made us pay $50.

The property is located exactly where you want to be. Lagoon on one side, ocean on the other, and steps from the vibrance of the village. We arrived early for check-in and were allowed to leave our bags in the lobby and served fresh, cold juice. It seemed like we had surprised them by arriving early and the young person who served us juice was the first and last pleasurable interaction with staff aside from the person who cleans the pool. We did not eat at the lodge so we cannot speak to the food. The rooms are rustic and we were grateful for the fan that had been provided. If you suspect you are going to struggle with the heat and humidity, this is not the place for you. The setting is quiet and maintained. The pool is lovely although the pool furniture was sparse and had seen far better days. Do not lose your key as they charged us to replace the door handle instead of honoring the posted rate for key replacement. They also left us waiting outside of our locked room for an hour when the whole time the door could have been opened using a credit card, then chastised us for getting their outdoor walkway wet while we waited. It was bizarre and uncomfortable for us. We would not go back, but can see why some people do.

We spent 3 nights at Miss Junie’s to see the turtles and the wildlife. The food was amazing. The Run Down soup ( you must order the day before) was delicious fish soup that takes hours to cook. All the food was good. We did a canoe tour in the park with the owner’s nephew who is a gifted naturalist. But the highlight was the 9pm to midnight tour of watching 2 turtles lay their eggs with Nolly, the owners daughter. It was such a beautiful and special experience. Nolly is a great conservationist and takes good care of Tortuguero and the wildlife.

Loved this place. Miss Junie's family founded the village of Tortuguero and were key to protecting the turtles her and establishing the park. The hotel is very comfortable and clean with a nice pool. It's nestled on a peninsula with the Carribean Ocean on the west and Rio Tortuguero on the west...so you can see both sunrise and sunset from the hotel. It's still run by the family. Grandson Gerald took us on a canoe trip through the park where we saw herons, otters, monkeys, sloths and more. Nolly, a daughter, was our turtle tour guide. She also doubles as the cook, and her meals are the best we had in Costa Rica.

We traveled to Tortuguero last week with two young children in tow and had lunch at Miss Junie’s. The food was amazing, and their staff were so kind and patient with our children. Lovely grounds and pool as well. Highly recommended!

We just spent two nights at Miss Junie's Lodge last week. The accommodations were clean and air conditioning a welcome relief. Cloied, the son of Miss Junie, the first founding family in that area. He took us out on a few tours - night walk, kayak tour of the canals and a tour of the town. We really enjoyed learning about the animals, insects and plants of the rainforest and all about the town and it's history. Cloied has so much enthusiasm and knowledge as a guide. He did his tour for us in English and Spanish, since we are learning Spanish, and couldn't understand everything in Spanish. His sister, who runs the lodge led our turtle tour also had a lot of expertise and patience helping us get an opportunity to see a majestic 125 year old turtle laying her eggs up close. It was magical to observe that process. The pool at the lodge is also a huge plus. Clean, refreshing, big enough to actually swim and relax in. Tortuguero is a very interesting destination - not a resort, but a fascinating place to come and experience wildlife and see a small Caribbean community, especially if you are lucky enough to hang out with Cloied. If you can, kayaking into deep into the canals is a super cool way to check out the jungle.

We only had two days and one night in Miss junies on this turtle paradise. We were early for check in and got served complementary coffee which was perfect and got into room 3 hours before official check in. Went for a stroll in the town had happy hour cocktails next door to the hotel before heading out for 9:30pm turtle tour this would blow your mind both Cloyd and his sister worked so well with the local spotters we saw two huge green back turtle within inches and saw one lay all her 100+ eggs . Just amazing ! Right outside the hotel on the beach. Next morning after 🥞 pancakes we headed out for Cloyd experience canoe tour. This guide and family member of the hotel is so enthusiastic and showed us in depth of the water jungle crocodiles exotic birds a d monkeys I've never seen. A must see and you must get a follow Cloyd everywhere.

Stayed here as part of an organised tour. The town could only be accessed by boat, so all luggage and us were transported on a long skinny boat which was an experience in itself! The lodge had lovely grounds and also was close to the central area where the restaurant and shops were. Rooms were basic with two single beds and a bathroom. A ceiling fan was provided for cooling the room down but this didn’t do a great deal. The room was clean and the window was fitted with a fly screen to stop the mosquitos conning in to . Bathroom however wasn’t great, the sink was hanging off the wall and loose and was covered in black mood. There was a wooden mirror with a little bamboo shelf to put toiletries on but that was also not very clean at all. No fridge in the room to keep anything cold. No safe also. Pool was a nice relief after a hot day though and there was lots of green macaws in the trees which were nice to watch
