Self service place, stayed two nights and never once spoke to the receptionist, who didn’t seem to engage anyone either. I guess only when you have an issue then you go to him, but he’s not there all the time. Only saw him at night. Bunk was alright, although there were no windows and would be better if there was more luggage space. Bathroom was good and sufficiently spacious.
However, my overall experience wasn’t great cos of the type of guests this place attracts. Maybe because it's well located in the Shinjuku area, but there were certain characters I've never seen at hostels in my 2 months travelling in Japan - disrespectful, self centred and inconsiderate people. People who were making a lot of noise packing late at night (close to midnight), seemingly oblivious to the fact that people were already sleeping. Worst were those who brought their lousy habits from home to Japan and acted like it was their home - men especially. Saw a few strutting around only in their underwear, and one of them seemed drunk, talking loudly at 1:30am in the dorm to another guest who was whispering back to him and trying to tell him to quieten down. Not the hostel's fault, but maybe the lack of staff presence makes people think they can behave as they please? The hostel should perhaps put up signs reminding people to be appropriately clothed, or to be quiet after 10pm. And also turn off the room lights by a certain time so people have a physical reminder that it's late and they should watch their noise level.
In short, only good thing is the location, but after this experience I don't think I will go back again unless I have no other option.
