Svatma - A Luxury Heritage Resort

Based on the last 2 hours, this hotel has the worst service that I have experienced. Our family was kept waiting over an hour for dinner to arrive. My repeated requests for extra towels and laundry service have been ignored. And this is just the start of our stay! I am NOT looking forward to the next 2 days here. Possibly Svatma feels that the paucity of decent hotels in Thanjavur means that they can get away with absolutely crappy service. I don’t know whether they will even get around to reading this review before 2025!

Over rated hotel. Very average food. Nice swimming pool but poor seating arrangements next to pool. Could not sleep because of machinery noise in room 304- told because of malfunction in kitchen extraction fan! Excellent hotel manager moved us to a silent room. All the staff extremely friendly except the barman who refused ice cubes for our room & wanted me to pay!!!! Charged for water on the dining table!!!! This hotel takes mainly coach loads of foreign tourists so has got a bit lazy & sloppy.

Svatma Thanjavur is a truly lovely resort, meticulously curated by an architect with an eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the region’s rich heritage. However, it’s heartbreaking to see that this once-stunning property has begun to show signs of neglect. The asset, which was once the pride of Thanjavur, is now slowly deteriorating, with maintenance issues becoming increasingly apparent. It’s as if the hotel’s soul is still intact, but its exterior is beginning to fade. My heart bled seeing the state of this beautifully put-together hotel, which now feels like a shadow of its former self. Despite these concerns, there is still hope for a turnaround. The essence of Svatma remains strong, and with the right care and attention, it could be restored to its former glory. Someone urgently needs to take a close look and breathe new life into this architectural masterpiece. Svatma Thanjavur deserves to be cherished and preserved for future guests to experience its full potential.

Svatma is a great place to stay. The hospitality, staff and the food is top notch !, my son and I were visiting from the US and had an amazing stay at his property. Balaji is terrific and guided us very well on the attractions, taxi service etc. Tanjore n Svatma are a “must do” if you plan to visit temples in Tamil Nadu.

Svatma is a piece of history restored with love & passion. Nestled in an unassuming locality, the property reveals itself like a pearl in an oyster. The warmth of the staff is unmatched. Thank you Mr. Balaji for the utmost care towards your guests. And thank you 'Bernard Shaw' for paying special attention to our meals. Mr. Mani who drove us around Thanjavur in a property car is an absolute gentleman. We have been very grateful to all the people we crossed paths with here. Our experience has ensured that we will be recommending Svatma to everyone visiting Thanjavur!
