This is a 4+, really—the hotel gets so many things right. A large and well-appointed room with good bedside reading lights, good tea and coffee supplies, an iron, a free-standing hairdryer (what to call it when it’s not built into the wall?), excellent blackout curtains. Very hot water in the shower, and good water pressure even on the top floor. Good, varied breakfast buffet. The location is central—right on Freedom Square—and it was pretty special to look out (from an upper-level room) on St George slaying the dragon atop a plinth ALMOST at eye level. Also visible: Mother Georgia, the funicular, and the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Try to get a room on the 4th floor or higher. Easy walks to the old town, the history museum, the Dry Bridge Market—and the swanky Galleria shopping centre is a few doors down, with a good supermarket in the basement.
