Vila Gale Tavira

Lovely Hotel, very clean, breakfast was excellent, the bedrooms are quite spacious, pool view rooms are the best to book, not far to walk to the main tourist area, plenty of restaurants, not much in the way of nightlife.

I didn’t like the room , it had bad smell inside , Breakfast was very limited as in 3 stars hotel , also there was no tooth past in a room without request , same as no tea station without request . Steam sauna was terrible , it is fake turkish sauna with plastic seats and plastic walls , hard to call it turkish sauna . So big disappointment, I was in villa gale in Lisbon and Lagos and it was real turkish bath or real Sauna . This hotel can be 3 stars , but not 4 stars . Jacuzzis worked very week , and air conditioning in room also was working not good .

The staff are polite and welcoming But it's not four star the room was good but lacking in wardrobe space and there's no kettle in the room ,these are basic requirements and not hard to fix,the cleaner's would turn up any time after four in the afternoon far to late. The breakfast was a bit of a run a round and if you didn't get there early be prepared to queue. Overall we would go back not to expensive and lovely staff.

We have just returned from a short stay at the Vile Gale Tavira. It's location is great and close to shops, restaurants and cafes. The hotel is large and the standard rooms are small. Clean and well looked after, but small for three. Our room was located on the side of the restaurant and bar/entertainment room. The noise was noticeable from early evening until 11pm but it may not bother everyone. On the plus side we had a great view of the salt pans and the local flamingo family, that was wonderful! The food at the pool bar was ok, we ate there once during our stay and did return the overcooked burger. The breakfast was lovely, a good selection of food and an omelette station too. The staff were helpful on the front desk but the ones working at the pool bar were more mixed! For example, my daughter wanted an ice cream and I went to order at the bar only to be told it was self service. On another day I did the same, returning to the bar to pay, to be told it wasn't self service! Sunbeds - plenty of them and most were easy to secure earlier in the day. However, from around 3pm onwards the pool area became quite busy and there were in short supply. Something, which I haven't read elsewhere in other reviews, is the smell. The hotel is next door to a salt factory, it doesn't impact negatively on your stay but there was a strong smell of gas. It wasn't there all the time but it was became strong enough to make you feel quite nauseous. Like I say I never found the source and the hotel staff had no idea what it was or where it came from, but it was very strong and was off putting when sitting around the pool. Overall, we had lovely break and the bonus is the close proximity to the lovely town of Tavira.

The hotel looked really nice from the outside, situated in the old town, which is beautiful. When you enter the lobby, it is a big open space. No plants, nothing. There are couches, ect, but they are on the edge of the lobby, which gives it a weird unwelcoming vibe. Note here that there are light blanket type rugs that move very easily and could be a trip hazard if not careful. The room was spacious and spotless. My view was on the road, but I was happy with this. The food was well set out and plentiful, and the staff worked so hard. The only downside to this hotel was the pigeons. I wasn't going to put it on here, but it needs addressing. The pool area tables, lounges, and floor are spattered with poop from the pigeons. I saw people walking through said poop and going in the pool. Just a note here ( I did email them) where I live there was a serious bird problem by the shops. The store played intermittent sounds of a falcon, and within a very short time, no birds they had left the area due to Falcon.might I suggest the hotel adopt this and deep clean everything by the pool afterwards. It's a good hotel, lovely staff, and beautiful location. It's just the pigeons that I didn't like.

Conveniently located in a central position in Tavira. Our room was comfortable and of a decent size and cleaned daily. We stayed bed and breakfast. Used the hotel bar only once as the drinks were pricey and was also little used by other guests.

From start to finish there was nothing to complain about in respect of this hotel and it offers very good value for money. This isn't a five star hotel but it's comfortable in every respect and each department seems to operate smoothly..the reception, housekeeping, restaurant, bar, animation, indoor and outdoor pools and spa. This reflects well on the people who mange the hotel and all the hard working staff. We travel extensively and it's very easy to see when a hotel is poorly managed. Our room 2063 was well furnished and cleaned every day so thanks to the cleaning ladies for that. The Hotel is on the flat, there is entertainment most evenings and everything on Tavira is within walking distance. You can book this hotel with confidence of having a comfortable stay.

Good basic hotel for visiting Tavira. We rely on reviews here before choosing holiday accommodation so leaving a few tips for Villa Gale in Tavira. Perfect base for visiting this gorgeous city as everything within walking distance. Lovely pool and lots of sunbeds available. Rooms kept clean maids work hard. Rooms are serviced in the afternoon as mornings seem to be for changeovers. Very minimal storage space and no where to hang dresses. We kept most of our clothes in suitcases for our weeks stay as no where to hang them. Only 3 drawers available. TIP* If you want a specific room email before and keep copy of email. We wanted an upper floor room and the receptionist checking us in was adamant one was not available. Once we showed her the email request she relented and found us one. However we found top floor balconies had no covers for sun rain and pigeon poop protection so couldn't leave towels to dry out there. Very exposed. TIP* The rooms above the pool and indoor bar will suffer music all day until 11pm. Ask for a quiet room if that's your preference. Beds are so hard our backs suffered by the end of a week! Also very dark and dim so bring a torch. No hooks behind doors to hang coats on to dry. Such a simple thing to remedy. No shaving or makeup mirror either. Breakfasts perfectly nice didn't try evening buffet at hotel as cheaper and nicer to eat out. The food in Tavira is wonderful and worth a trip to Tavira island as so beautiful and peaceful this time of year only €2.5 return on ferry that runs hourly. The one feeling we were left with was how impersonal the staff were especially on reception. Rare to get a smile. We will return to Tavira but not to this hotel.

Stayed here with my husband b&b for 7 nights I will break down the review into parts. The room Two single beds pushed together to make a double to be honest this was slightly annoying as the beds would move if you both were in the middle but I understand they do it to separate for non couples. Would have preferred an actual double bed. Room was spotlessly clean and was maintained daily. It is spacious and nicely decorated. Couple other niggles the safe you have to pay for daily other places I have stayed either charge a deposit which you get back once key is returned or free so to be charged daily I feel is not warranted. Also kettle tea and coffee does not come as standard you have to request this but it’s free of charge. No iron available to hire they have a laundry service they charge for but I forgot our travel iron I just wanted to give t-shirts a once over not a service. Our room was facing the street and that was fine it is extremely quiet so it didn’t bother us. Bottles in fridge over price 5min walk to shops buy your own instead. Food We stayed b&b and breakfast is plentiful with lots of choice. However the choice doesn’t change from day to day. They have a live cooking station which makes crapes, omelettes, fried eggs. I think offering something different here would have been appreciated as you come be underwhelmed by day 4. The food is well cooked and presented well we enjoyed everything we ate. We paid for the buffet at night twice €27 each not including drinks I think is reasonable the food was hot and good quality with live cooking station we enjoyed the food. We also ate twice at the snack bar having toasties which were €6-€8 and come with chips so decent prices and did their job. In Tavira it has so many beautiful restaurants it’s not worth going half board. Staff All the staff were polite and friendly they did what they could to be accommodating and make your stay enjoyable. 10/10 for all the workers. The hotel amenities Indoor pool you need to book but it’s free it has a steam room and hydro jacuzzi. You need a swim cap here €4 to purchase or bring your own. Enjoyed the indoor pool on cloudy days. Outdoor pool absolutely freezing we went April so not extremely hot weather. There’s a small children’s pool with small slides under 6’s would enjoy. Sun loungers and parasols. It was extremely quiet when we visited so had our pick any time of the day not sure how it would be in high season. Entertainment so… if you want to relax and chill here is definitely the place don’t expect loud music and pool games there were activities such as bingo, yoga, pool etc very calm and laid back. The entertainment team did a great job but it’s not a place I would bring kids it’s too laid back for that for us as a couple getting away from our kids that was amazing and we loved it but for families it’s a bit slow paced.
