We booked Cliveden House for a special anniversary, expecting impeccable luxury, but left feeling utterly let down by a series of unacceptable failures. Our room was noticeably dirty upon arrival—dust on surfaces, weeks worth of dirt and dust over the bed and radiators full of dirt in the bathroom. Housekeeping then made things worse by removing the makeup flannel during the turn down service while we were at dinner, leaving my wife without it when we returned. For a hotel of this calibre, such basic oversights are inexcusable. With the errors made in housekeeping this in not missing the odd item, this is clearly a culture of it will do even if it is not right. Dinner was a farce. The waiter placed meals in front of the wrong guests, and one main course arrived with a human hair in it. The replacement dish was inedible—completely different from what was ordered, with sides left cold on the table, not replaced. Breakfast was no better: we had to serve ourselves juice whilst other guests had their drinks poured tableside, no toast was offered where other guests had it placed on the table, and the poached eggs were so overdone we sent them back. What should have been a magical anniversary was ruined by sloppy service, poor hygiene, and a lack of care. For the price, we expected perfection—instead, we got neglect. A disgraceful waste of money and a total betrayal of the Cliveden name. Its a real shame that this special anniversary will be remembered for all the wrong reasons and that is purely down to Clivden House
