Pacific Kalokairi - Adults Only

Pacific Kalokairi is a magnificent sparkling gem of a hotel perched in the hills just outside of Tamarindo in the Guanacaste Region overlooking the ocean to the west and the jungle to the east. This was my first trip to Costa Rica and our anniversary celebration, we chose this hotel because in the photos online the architecture looked very elegant and the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. We were not disappointed. The hotel is stunning, every inch is thoughtfully designed, open airy doors and windows, clean lines, attention to detail, beautiful woodwork, high quality sheets, spacious bed, double sinks, powerful shower heads, perfect balconies with comfortable furniture for morning coffee and evening sunset viewing and a fabulous infinity pool in the shape of a coffee bean for swims. The structures are beautiful but the heart of the hotel is really the tight knit family from Spain that owns and operates the property on a daily basis. Virginia the daughter is the concierge and has a wealth of hospitality experience from her time in Europe and Miami, her mother Maria prepares breakfast every morning for guests, her father Santi methodically cleans the pool EVERY morning at 6am. Carlos, originally from CR is the bartender/waiter, he was sweet and fun and made us feel welcome everyday. Danny the chef from Bilbao prepared Michelin star quality dishes every night. The Pacific Kalokairi team has a perfect combination of professionalism and warmth. I highly recommend Pacific Kalokairi. A bit more about how wonderful Viginia is........ Initially our flight was postposed due to tropical storm Sara, I called Virginia on WhatsApp and she was very open and flexible, she immediately let us cancel and reschedule the trip for 5 days later when the airport in Liberia reopened after the storm had passed. When we arrived Virginia continued to offer advice that hit the mark with us every time. She has excellent taste and insight into local places of interest, we particularly enjoyed her recommendations for La Leona Waterfall, Poza Los Coyotes and Playa Minas. My intuition led me to book here. I was looking for a quiet retreat, away from the hustle, that would allow me to just relax. That is exactly what Virginia and the amazing team delivered. The rooms are so private, clean, and equipped with all the amenities one could need. Sitting out on my own deck, sipping my morning coffee, is how I started each of my days. Breakfast was always fresh and delicious. I ate most of my meals at the restaurant, and it was truly an experience, my taste buds were bursting with every dish. The pool temperature was ideal, and the view? The sunsets were spectacular - truly Golden Hour! They offered a shuttle a couple of times a day, which I took advantage of when I was ready to venture into Tamarindo. I also used the taxi service, which was convenient. All of my needs were met and then some. If you are looking for a chill and friendly vibe, this place is it. My husband found this place at my request to stay in Tamarindo. We wanted to check out the town and stay somewhere a little different. This place didn’t disappoint. If you’re looking for relaxing and some peace this is your destination. I believe one day at the pool we were the only ones there for hours. Most people head to town during the day as Virginia and her team offer a drive down everyday at 10am/3/6/9pm. They can only take 4 people at a time but we had no issues getting a ride when we wanted one. Dining: Breakfast was good. They have a small variety of offerings for everyone’s liking. They serve a bowl of fresh fruit and jam with bread at each sitting and it was the best jam I’ve ever had. Virginia’s mom makes it fresh. Lunch and dinner are also offered. We didn’t eat dinner here just because we wanted to explore the town options. Pool: Beautiful view. Hotel provides pool towels. Only 4 sets of chairs but never had a problem with getting a set. When it got too hot there is a shaded area with hanging chairs that is perfect with the right book. Room: Perfect for our needs. These rooms were well designed. Air and fan worked great as it was very hot during our stay. Shower was gorgeous and shampoo/conditioner and soap were provided. Beach: A beach club was recommended to us. I’m glad it was because it was nice and quiet. The only thing is that it’s $50pp/day. For one day we didn’t mind paying that. You have access to a pool, bar, bathrooms, lounge chairs etc. Virginia has beach towels available. But the club had them too. There wasn’t a gym but I walked down the road in the am to explore and get some exercise in. They did have a punching bag and some other things. We loved the town of Tamarindo and this accommodation completed our experience. Virginia and her family/team did a great job of making our stay nice.
