Reading some of the previous reviews they are like an advert from the Hotel itself. First of all I cannot fault the location of this hotel if you accept it's on a busy road, but that's the norm for Sri Lanka and not really an issue once you are inside the compound of the hotel as it wraps around you. The views are great. It is a new hotel and there are quite a few teething problems. So, the facilities and the building; the hotel is not completely finished or set up, there is a rooftop Penthouse which is incomplete and not at all nice to look at. I counted at least three cracked balcony glass which is a worry in case they break and fall which could be very serious. There are two jacuzzis which if you want to use you have to walk dripping wet in your swimsuit to reception to ask them to switch on. The pool is a decent size and in fact very nice to lay around with beds in the shallow part of the pool or looking out to sea. But no seats to sit around the bar in the water. There is another shallower pool the other side of the hotel which is very nice and shadier but the bar there was never open during our stay. And one big headache...Why do they charge for water around the pool? Neither St Regis or Marriot do this and to be honest its quite insulting when you holiday in a hot country. Offer free water and maybe some refreshing cloths for guests. Restaurants surprisingly do not offer Sri Lankan food such as coconut curries...but otherwise its a reasonable offering. Our room; we booked one of the suites with its own pools but when we arrived, the current guests were still there way past check out, so we were eventually offered an upgrade on Floor 6 with a large sitting room and kitchen, the receptionist looked a bit panicked our room wasn't ready or they double booked. Lovely suite they gave us, but WHY?? offer a kitchen with no utensils, no dish clothes,,,absolutely nothing. Nobody is going to buy this stuff if they are staying for just a few days. Not even fresh milk in the fridge and the water is supplied in small plastic bottles...not very green at all. It felt more like a room you'd find in the Raddison Blu timeshares in Malta for example, but at least those ones are fully kitted out. And whilst we are on the subject of the room, the receptionist assured us that our original booking was just a tiny room with just a bedroom.....this is a blatant lie as it has a sitting room and ample space. Staff: probably the area this hotel really needs to work on... the staff are very friendly and lots of smiles and it was pleasant chatting to them and they were all polite.......however, if ever a hotel staff needed training, this is the one. You can find yourself being served by four different staff members at the same time, no dedicated staff member to a guest at reception or in the restaurant etc. Generally a lack of co-ordination and sometimes a lack of understanding of guests needs. It has been the single most frustrating thing....how many
