We booked the hotel from the 5th of May 2024 for our Feb trip and pay for it in advance with our ANZ daily accounts so we have less bills to pay when it’s getting closer to the date.
Long story short, we checked in on 26th of March, told that there’s a deposit fee that will be refunded once we check out along with an upgrade fee we have to pay because we brought our dog with us. Paid for it without any issue on my Macquarie Card, which I never expose to anywhere every other merchant prior because it’s our mortgage account.
Around midnight, I received a notification through my Macquarie bank that I have been charged by Veriu; which freaked me out! Because I paid for the stay ages ago and pay the difference on the day when I checked it. Rang the duty manager and he insisted that he didn’t charge me and said that’s it must be from the Trip; which I responded that’s impossible because my Macquarie bank wasn’t exposed to any other merchant prior to paying for the deposit and upgrade. He insisted that reach out to trip which I did.
After all the conversation, the trip customer agent rang Veriu and confirmed that the night manager Raj indeed charged me even though I have paid for it and was compensated points from trip for this hassle.
Imagine if my Macquarie bank doesn’t have the notification like ANZ or any other bank! The costumers won’t know until they check their bank statements!
