Prost Hotel Swakopmund Namibia

This hotel is poor in many ways and only has an ‘average’ rating due to its excellent location. Rooms are small, hot, stuffy and hot water is spasmodic. Bed is hard and rug on floor was turned up on two corners creating a tripping hazard. The kettle gave me an electric shock. The staff were either absent or rude. When asked for a towel which was not replaced after room ‘cleaning’ the response was “it’s in the wash”, as if that was the one and only towel available. Overall a big disappointment and not recommendable.

A great stopover at Swakopmund, for various activities. Comfortable beds (not all rooms are the same size or designation) and a much needed hot shower. Decent breakfast, and our dietary needs (vegan, vegetarian) were accommodated nicely. The location is also very good, with various restaurants and eateries within walking distance. During the day we could walk round town exploring shops whilst we waited for our activities, but in the evening we attracted youthful company when walking to the the nearby eating places. They were just begging (probably due to lack of employment - a growing issue in Namibia) but it started getting uncomfortable as the gang grew in size. Luckily we had our guide with us, who managed to step in at the right time, and nothing of event occurred.

I spent two nights at the Prost Hotel in October 2023. After a week cycling and camping in the desert and bush country of Namibia I was ready for a hotel. The Prost surpassed my expectations... I'm not sure what star it is (3?4?). The first thing that stuck me was the fresh, clean smell of the place. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good - eggs done the way you want them. The hotel has an efficient and very reasonable laundry service. Good bathroom. Spotlessly clean. Wi-fi available if you can't live without your phone/laptop. The decor is a bit dated, but this is Namibia: if you want bling, go to Dubai.

Stayed in one of the air conditioned rooms in July, and it was absolutely fantastic for the price. Very spacious and modern room with a satellite tv with a large number of channels, small refrigerator, sizeable bathroom and shower, coffee and tea. A very good buffet breakfast (with made-to-order eggs) is offered between 7am-10am. However, what stood out most about the very centrally located Prost Hotel was its friendly and welcoming staff. Well before checking in, I had a number of random questions given that it was my first time to Namibia, and Debbie responded both very quickly and very warmly. It’s really hard to convey warmth through an email, but it certainly came through. I had asked similar questions to another, unnamed, local, historic hotel when debating where to stay, and their responses were very cool and perfunctory — couldn’t have been more opposite than Debbie’s. In any case, each and every one of the staff above and beyond to make our stay superb. Needed a very early ride to a tour pick up spot about a mile away after checkout - no problem, Debbie organized a staff person to take us. Although we had 10 (!) foriegn country electric adapter plugs, none worked for Namibia - no problem, the front desk let us borrow two for our stay and let us know where to buy one for the rest of our trip. Couldn’t figure out how to work the tv remote (extremely embarrassed about this as a man!) - no problem, front desk staff immediately came up and sorted us out. Checked out before breakfast, but plans slightly changed afterwards - no problem, came back and had our final breakfast at the hotel. So huge shout out to debbie and all of the wonderful staff at prost hotel!! If we ever come back to Swakopmund, this will be the one and only hotel we stay at.

Nice modern hotel in fairly good location, ie only about a 10 minute walk down to the waterfront and near to shops in the middle of town. Rooms are clean and modern but in ours (no 12), the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom. I dunno, maybe some people spend more time in the bathroom than in bed. I can’t see any other reason for it being so big and would have preferred more bedroom space. Wifi was great and the breakfast buffet set us up for the day. The gentleman cooked our eggs to perfection. Lastly, one thing we’ll never forget is that when a strong east wind blows, despite the windows being closed and venetian blinds shuttered, everything within several feet of them will be sporting a thin layer of dust/sand. Our room wasn’t even street facing but looked out onto an inner courtyard, so heaven knows what it was like in the outside rooms. I know that the weather can’t be controlled but isn’t there a way of sealing to prevent this ? (Maybe not economically I guess.) Didn’t spoil our stay though.
