Hofsstadir - Country Hotel

Our room was of average size offering views of the ongoing countryside and occasional eyeshots of lovely horses passing by. However, the floor was very noisy to walk on and closing the door was even noisier! There’s no shelter from rooms to restaurant/reception so you’ll most probably need an umbrella or raincoat to get there. For dinner I had quite a nice potato barley cake, but didn’t even like to think about the horse steak which was also available. Breakfast was disappointing: a lot of homemade stuff but few simple essentials like tomato ketchup! There was some quite nice bread but only one popup toaster, cold hard boiled eggs, and cold cuts including horse meat!!! I don’t know who the man at the breakfast reception was, but he was very unprofessional. I politely asked if it was possible to sit at a table for two, but was rudely told that I had to sit with the group. I later simply asked for some tomato ketchup and was again treated like a naughty child. Does a humble hotel, in the middle of nowhere, anywhere else in the world, cost so much?

This multi generational family run farmhouse with multiple cottages for guests is set in a wide open peaceful environment overlooking snow capped mountains & the Artic Ocean in the distance. The mom greeted us at the door, dad was the chef & their daughter was our waitress. Both the dinner & breakfast were amazing! While enjoying the views from our private outdoor patio, we had a herd of Icelandic horses come greet us. Highly recommend this place

This was a BEAUTIFUL hotel. The room was nice and the chairs looking out towards the view were relaxing and wonderful. Dinner and the chef and hostess were SPECTACULAR. They were so nice. Breakfast was great and they had Cream of Wheat. Just a great experience after driving around Iceland.

Amazing location - 15 minute drive from Skagafjordur, yet in a remote location with no light pollution. The owners are super nice We were fortunate to have 3 nights of northern lights spectacle facing the frozen river banks and the snow crested mountains. Unbelievable.

It was around 18 km detour from ring road. We reached around 4 pm..our rooms were ready.nice ,clean rooms. Restaurant there was fully booked with preset menu and only 1 vegeterian dish, chef denied to make anything extra, totally understandable,also denied to heat our own food That's also ok,,,but it was shock to us they denied to give empty plates/dishes only to eat our food..zero hospitality and zero service. We saw aurora from there. That's why giving 2 stars Otherwise not worth the detour. If they r fully booked they should keep atleast enough staff or don't take much bookings if you can't give basic fascility. Great view around property as claimed by many is just eveeywhere in iceland.not worth the detour

Great rooms with stunning Views and sweet horses in the fields.my sister and I have many allergies and the chef was very kind and skilled in preparing meals for us. The breakfast had an excellent range of freshly baked breads and hot food, and some excellent local cheese and home made jams.The isolated location was great for northern lights watching. Thank you to the farmer who owns the hotel, it was the best and most authentic Icelandic experience we had. Regards Victoria and Elly
