We had difficulty finding the hotel as there are two postcodes online. We ended up in an office block car park down the road but with the help,of a friendly local we found our way. Use the pub name (The Old Rectory) for navigation. On arrival we were very happy with the car parking. There was loads of space. We were travelling as a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 &6 and we were allocated a family room in the annex. It was basic but massive. We were really surprised by the space. Both children had their own bed and even with three beds in the room there was lots of space. It was 30 degrees or more during our stay but the location of the room and the fact that it had three windows which could be left open meant it was comfortable. We were also provided with a fan. We were provided with towels and a kettle. The only items we missed were flannels. The restaurant is in a separate building in the on-site pub. The food is basic pub food. We enjoyed what we had and felt it was value for money. It was very quiet at night and we slept very well. The hot breakfast was freshly cooked and well made. The continental offering would benefit from a coffee machine, and some fresh fruit salad. Staff were really friendly, and we felt very welcome. The grounds are lovely, especially the beer garden and conservatory in the restaurant but the whole hotel feels a little tired and needs some basic maintenance e.g. paint touch ups here and there, grass cutting, weeding and conservatory windows cleaned, cleaning down the steps towards the town to show it off to its full potential. This is a budget hotel, which offers good value in a great town location. We had never visited Stockport before and loved the Saturday market and the quaintness of the town. We would stay again.
