With four bedrooms and a bonus children's sleeping room, Baldy's can comfortably accommodate 13 people. Baldy's Retreat is tucked up against the woods on our 600 acre horse and cattle farm. Guests at Baldy's have access to the ponds, Game Barn, woodland trails, horse petting, hiking, bicycles, swimming hole, and the gorgeous scenery of Wolftrap Farm. Out the front door, Baldy's guests have views of horses that will come to the fence for treats, and you may see wild turkeys passing as well. The back deck is well-shaded, and the night noises of frogs and crickets back there are free.You will also have the option of booking one of our golf carts to use to explore the farm, and to book our Party Patio, with its hot tub, corn hole and other games. Contact the owner to reserve.)We describe Baldy's as a Retreat because it is almost out of sight and out of earshot of the farm complex. However, a short walk down the drive brings you to additional horse paddocks with friendly horses. Just beyond, you reach the edge of the farm complex, with additional guest cottages, the Manor House, the stables, our Pavilions where we host wedding receptions, the Game Barn, and access to our woodland hiking trails.Wolftrap Farm is an excellent home base when you want to visit wineries (Barboursville, Horton, Keswick and Hona Lea are within 15 minutes; Early Mountain is within 30). Monticello is a beautiful 30 minute drive away, and Montpelier is just across the little mountains in front of the farm, 15 minutes away. Liberty Mills Farms is just down the road and we are 5 minutes from the Market at Grelen. For this history buffs, we are 5 minutes away from Montpelier, 15 minutes away from historic downtown Gordonsville and 45 min from Monticello. We are near several top rated wineries including: Barboursville and Keswick. 30 minutes from Charlottesville and 5 min from Orange. There is also plenty of antiquing nearby!Bloomingdale Cabin is a four room single floor house with a mix of vintage furnishing locally sourced from nearby antique stores. Our front room has a large farm table that is great for enjoying a meal, playing a game or spreading out for a work retreat. The kitchen has all the basics covered with a stove-oven and mini-fridge. We also have a toaster, kettle and french press so you can take advantage of the beautiful mornings here. The bedroom has a queen bed that overlooks our barn from the 1800's. There is also sofa futon in the living room that can accommodate a child or small adult. We recently added a smart TV to the living room area. The front porch provides ample space for watching sunsets or outdoor dining when the weather allows. Our guests have access to our salt water pool, and grill area when in season (May-Sept). The garden gazebo is also accessible year around and has some yard games like croquet and corn hole. These common areas are shared with us and other guests staying on the property. There is a dedicated parking pad for the cabin in the backyard across from the barn or parking available in front of the garage. There are no laundry facilities available for guests at this property. Imagine telling your friends you slept in a BARN! But it is the most luxurious barn you can imagine. This apartment is the former milking parlor and office of a 1940's era dairy barn. The barn is now a horse stables, but don't worry, you will not smell or hear horses from inside the apartment. You will, however, see them through the large windows, and you may stroll through the barn to see them up close, or take a few steps over to their paddocks, where you can pet them, feed them apples and carrots, and watch them play.This iconic bell-roofed barn is at the center of the farm complex at Wolftrap Farm, where we have six other vacation rental homes and host over 60 weddings each year. We converted the Barn Apartment from being a tack room and lounge area for the stables in the spring of 2017. Watch and feed apples and carrots to the horses in the paddocks outside your front door. Take hikes through the woods, fish in our ponds, meet your neighbors who may be staying at the other homes on the farm, and enjoy the incredible views of our little mountain range and our pastures and woods. And you may want to bring your bathing suits. In the summer, we have a swimming hole in our creek. For cooler months we have a Party Patio with a hot tub and various patio games, including corn hole. The swimming hole and Party Patio are free. You do need to "reserve" the Party Patio by contacting the owner. You can book it for 1 & 1/2 hours per day of your stay, first come first served. The farm is super-easy to get to (just one turn off a major U.S. highway and after a mile on our farm road, you are there), and is convenient to Monticello, Montpelier, a half-dozen great wineries (most notably, Barboursville and Early Mountain). We are half-way between Gordonsville and Orange (5 miles to each) where you will find excellent restaurants, grocery stores and anything you need during your visit. Our entry road is almost a mile long, and you pass ponds, cattle pastures and through cedar-lined sections. At the top of the hill, you find our farm complex, with the Manor House (with this Servants' Cottage snuggled in behind), our bell-roofed barn (former dairy barn), our 1856 bank barn, and other farm buildings. The Pond House and the Milker's Cottage are also within view, as is the training ring for our stables. There is a wonderful fishing pond full of bass and bream, and we supply the fishing equipment. And there are miles and miles of woodland trails, two impressive rope swings, horseshoe pits, views of the mountains, ancient boxwoods, and horses and cows to watch.
