There are no next door neighbors at Antler Ridge Cabin. All you'll see from the spacious front porch are the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. From the back deck, you'll see the Skyline Drive of the Shenandoah National Park. Situated at the edge of 52 acres of pasture and forest, Antler Ridge Cabin is the perfect romantic getaway for 2 in the Shenandoah Valley or a peaceful getaway Sightings of deer, snakes, wild turkeys, or even a bear are possible.... you are in the neck of the woods. Inside the cabin, you will find all the necessities for a comfortable stay. The living room includes a TV with DVD player, sofa, fireplace (but not for use in summer months), full kitchen with microwave, coffee maker, and everything you need to cook that special meal in the kitchen or on the grill out back. Two guests only please. The map only plots our property in Luray...it is 2 miles from Lake Arrowhead on Wintergreen Drive (or State Rd 746). A great mix of cottage/farmhouse/boho-chic style is what you will find in The House in Luray. It's a quaint laid back light filled get away space with a mix of colors, patterns and textures. I am a designer and really enjoy bringing out the best properties have to offer. This was a challenging project to do with many moments of "let’s see where this takes us" in deciding exactly how to custom design this early 1900's simple home. So it’s built in 1913. As is common in homes of this era there was only one bathroom and it is located on the first floor with the 2 bedrooms being on the 2nd level. So please be aware of that when you are booking. Other things to note is the house is located across the street from the Historical Green Hill cemetery which dates back to 1877. And on the other sides are a few tombstones dating back even before 1877. The kitchen does not have a dishwasher but is equipped for meal prep and multi night stays. Overall the best thing about The House in Luray is the walkable location to many restaurants, shops, the movie theatre and Hawksbill brewery as well as the nice walking trail thru town The Hawksbill Greenway. So need to move your car to enjoy all Luray has to offer. When you arrive park in the graveled parking area beside the house and enter from the side porch where a keypad is located on the yellow door for your convenience. You will find a very open floor plan on the first floor with a kitchen, dining and living area. Mosaic tiled backsplash, butcher countertops, wood floors, neutral colors with a bit of pop here and there and wood ceilings are many of the highlights.We provide some basic dishes and cooking items however you will need to bring groceries, condiments etc.. if you are planning on utilizing the kitchen. We do provide a keurig and a small supply of pods and condiments for coffee, There is a toaster, mixer and microwave available for guests use. There are ice cube trays in the freezer.The dining room seats 4 and the adjoining living room has ample seating comfortably for 4. The tv is internet only no cable or direct tv -you are welcome to use any apps you may have. Around the corner In the hallway is a dresser which holds guests towels and you will find a hair dryer and basic toiletries in the nearby bathroom. Upstairs is a small bedroom with full sized bed. In the closet you will find 2 luggage racks. check out the barn door on this bedroom. It was found in the barn on our country farm. You will also see a long ago repair patch in the hardwood floor made out of an old coffee can. Just too unique to remove. Adjacent to that bedroom is a good sized bedroom with queen mattress. Also 2 luggage racks in the closet for your convenience. A desk/dresser and a chair. We provide a standup fan in the bedroom as well. Take a break out on the side porch with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Its covered, so even on rainy days there's a dry space. Since the studio vacation rental next door is 2 feet from the house we have added layers of privacy without taking away from the openness of the porch. Aerial photos of the property provided in our photo book show the location of the studio to the house.Parking is in the gravel parking area next to the house. There is room for 2 automobiles and there is also parking on the street on DeFord Ave. These areas are shared with the studio. ( trash pick up day is Wednesday morning early between 6-7 so if trash cans are out on the street please do not park near them)Besides the charm of The House in Luray is its convenient location to many attractions in downtown Luray. The Hawksbill Brewery is just a 3 minute walk and around the other corner 5 minutes away is Baby Moons Bakery and Moon Shadows Restaurant. Downtown shops and the Luray Greenway walking trail is also just a short walk away. You are less than 10 minutes away from Shoppers Value Foods and the Luray Shopping Center. Most importantly it is a great neighborhood where you can walk around and see many houses with styles from the early 1900's to the 1960's from Victorians, to craftsman, and cottages, old lumber businesses and warehouses. The Art Gallery and the Luray Visitor center, which was once a train station for the Norfolk and Western Railroad and now has a museum in honor of the railroad is also within walking distance. The railroad still travels thru the town multiple times a day. The historic Greenhill Cemetery is right across the street from the house and of the 2500 graves in the cemetery, 500 are thought to be unmarked, identified only by depressions. The cemetery turns 140 years old this year. Google the cemetery and you will find some interesting stories.The town of Luray still has a volunteer fire department and they still alert the community and their members by sounding of the alarm. It is a loud siren. I have added a white noise machine in the bedroom as many B and B’s in town as well as other short term rentals have complained but they refuse to discontinue that practice. As I mentioned the train runs thru town a couple of times during the day as well as a night. It can also be heard from the property and anywhere in the town of Luray. Luray Caverns and all the amenities they offer are 1.6 miles away and the entrance to Shenandoah National Park at Thornton Gap Entrance (211 east) is 35 minutes away.The Shenandoah River which travels through the county is also nearby. Beautiful Lake Arrowhead is 15 minutes away and offers views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Amenities include, swimming, hiking, picnic areas, fishing and kayak and canoe rentals. This 20th century home, nestled in the Shenandoah Mountains, is a perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle and breathe some country air while enjoying the scenic views, sounds, sites and activities of the countryside. Everywhere you look- there’s a beautful view, but yet, you are a short walk from the biggest sites! Drive up and you’ll see the multi level, expansive deck! Complete with numerous seating areas, sunning areas, dining areas, solar umbrellas, couches, mini frig, bar, games, oversize cooler, trashcan, serving stations, benches, Hydromassage Salt water Hot Tub and outdoor TV! With this type of outdoor space, and free parking across the street- you could have a family gathering, wedding, or other event outside! Inside, you’ll find 4 bedrooms, a renovated kitchen with a side area that houses the washer/dryer, and more kitchen appliances, a screened in porch upstairs, a cozy living room downstairs and 2 full bathrooms. This house sleeps seven adults comfortably, although three-four smaller kids can fit using the additional sleeping spaces described below. Back outside, beyond the multi level deck, there is a lit walk way that takes you through the yard, to the fire pit with built in benches and cushioned Adirondack chairs for those times around the fire, making s’mores and creating memories. Your group will enjoy plenty of space to be together, or to take some time apart. Luray is well known for the Luray Caverns and the Singing Tower, and here you have them both within walking distance! Walk out of the door - and you are looking at the Singing Tower! Come out of the door and turn right, walk 3 minutes down the country road, and you will come across a pond where you can sit, fish, or stroll. Continue across the highway for another 3 minutes, and you will be at the entrance of the Luray Caverns, with its caves, stalagmites, stalactites and much more. Children and adults alike will enjoy the Caverns Car museum, gift shop, outdoor mountain climbing activities and Hedge Maze! Come out of the house and start walking to your left past the church, and you’ll find a great little place that serves alcohol and amazing burgers. Hop in the car, and drive 30 min to Harrisonburg, for those needing to attend James Madison University events.You have two porches to use, a screened in upper porch, a favorite for those who love the feeling of being outside, even a great place for little ones who want to « camp out », but with the safety of being in the house, and on the same level as three bedrooms. You also have a meet and greet porch, on the first level, with rocking chairs that encourage you to sit and relax. This summer, we added a large Saltwater Hydromassage Hot Tub, with a waterfall, lights, and so many soothing, massaging jets along the floor, and from thr upright and reclining positions, your body will be rejuvenated! No mater what porch you choose, this house gives you PRIVATE SEATING, to each and every Singing Tower Live Performance! No need to drive, park, or even walk, just enjoy from your own porches! (Performances run on the weekend around 2pm!) The Deck and screened in porches have comfy seating, (chaise lounge, L shaped couch, love seat, wrought iron rocking chairs, Cracker Barrel Rocking Chairs, etc). On the deck, you’ll find a copper wine rack/ice bucket and serving tray, allowing you to sip while you enjoy the country air! Warm lights are strewn across the spacious backyard, which has numerous places for eating, sitting, playing, enjoying the fire pit and more. In the yard, you’ll find a weather ready Wooden Corn Toss Set, or feel free to hop on one the bikes and take a country ride!The kitchen is filled with all you need to feed a family or your group of friends. The cupboards are stocked to include blenders, Calphalon pots, pans, casserole dishes, serving trays, pitchers, wine glasses, roasting pots, baking pans, skillets and more. A Keurig Coffee maker, and a standard coffee maker (for purists☺️), for our beverage station stocked with a few treats, K-cups, and mini creamers- are both available to suit your needs. The kitchen was remodeled in 2023 and now includes a garbage disposal, dishwasher, and microwave country kitchen table with plenty of seating. 2023 also welcomed a new refrigerator & stove! Kitchen expands through the door where you will find more new appliances, and extra large load Washer and Dryer, and shelves & drawers full of more appliances- & videos to pop in the DVD players!Take 20 steps from the front door, and you will find that you are approaching what is known as the « Cave Field », referred to lovingly by us locals as the « Cay Field ». This is the area that surrounds the Singing Tower with 1700 era bricks/stones. The children and adults alike in our family, have spent many days walking and skipping along the stones that surround that field, so enjoy! You’ll notice that people meet up for lunch, or just come to sit in their cars for a spell, taking in the beauty and serenity of the Cave (locals say Cay field) field. If you come out of the house and turn left, you’ll hit Main Street. Within a 5-10 min leisurely stroll, you will encounter an open air Brewery, and in another 10-15 minutes, you will be in the heart of downtown Luray with its shops, wine bars, boutiques, eateries, art houses, coffee shops, ice cream spots and even a VERY SMALLa completely unique movie theatre- don’t miss it! (It’s all decorated in red velvet, Italian statues, gold fixtures!) Luray has seasonal festivals, so check the brochures by the window to see if you might arrive in time to enjoy one. The walk downtown might take 20- 30 minutes, or just drive and park along the street. One of our favorite places to walk is around the Greenway. Grab a coffee and take a free walk along the River. Take in the nature and wildlife, and maybe the sunrise or the sunset. There are often live performances at the bridge along Main Street during the summer, and fall, so be prepared to be entertained!Looking for something a little more adventurous? Great! In summer or spring, take a tube, kayak or canoe down the river! There are 2-3 spots in town that offer river activities such as tube trips, fishing trips, canoe trips and more! The sign ups are pretty simple, they give you a time, a life jacket and off you go!If your adventurous side is more focused on land, then there are horses to ride, and ATV trips through the mountains that offer beautiful, unspoiled views, mixed with a little adventure. Not to mention the GOLF! The views alone make golfing in this area a treat for all who love the sport, or just love riding around in the carts. (If you do this, you should plan in advance, as they book up quickly!) If you enjoy spirits - they are everywhere! Walk out the door, turn left and left again at the main road- walk 5min to cocktails, spirits and amazing burgers at the Blue Shepard! Wineries are all around, just choose your poison!Now, for the bedrooms and the bathrooms. The first floor contains a master bedroom with a double bed, dresser and armoir, Smart Roku TV. This suite comes with a private master bath with walk in shower. Also on this floor is the living room with xfinity TV, the second full bath (walk in shower), the eat in kitchen, the reading nook, the laundry area and the backyard multi level deck! So many places to sit/sun/nap/eat/play games & soak in Hot Tub while you watch a movie!Up the staircase, you will find three bedrooms and the screened-in porch. The first bedroom you will encounter is the smallest, with a twin bed(extra bedding under bed), dresser, Smart Roku TV, nightstand and window seat with a lovely view. The next bedroom has a double bed, dresser, Smart Roku TV and window looking onto the screened in porch and Cave (Cay)field. The third bedroom is the largest, with a double bed, nightstand, with a pull out twin trundle bed, armoire, and XFinty TV with Roku Smart TV. Off the hallway between bedroom one and two, is a door that leads to the upstairs, screened-in porch with a sectional patio couch and a Chaise Lounge. Although this is NOT a bedroom, our family has always had members that loved grabbing a sleeping bag and sleeping on the porch. It was the first we knew of « glamping »! We could see the stars, hear the country sounds of the night, but not worry about wild animals or insect bites! (Again- we keep a few blow up mattresses in the closet, just in case you decide to try it.☺️)**Also, we have installed a security camera on the back porch, HOWEVER, it is NOT to monitor you! We want you to feel comfortable, and your privacy is of our utmost concern! Therefore, you will find the camera is OFF from your arrival to your departure, as indicated by a red light on the camera. (The light is green, when the camera is on.) The camera is there to monitor the house - BUT ONLY WHEN no guests are present! Welcome to the North Hawksbill House, a three bedroom two story home located in the Historical Town of Luray. Designed with your comfort and entertainment in mind, North Hawksbill House offers 2,500 square feet of living space providing a host of exclusive amenities and accommodates groups of six. The North Hawksbill offers an open layout concept on the first floor, a spacious kitchen and dining area adorning a custom brick floor, and featuring all new major appliances. Enjoy your morning coffee while seated at the beautiful cherry dining table as you look out the large picture window watching the local songbirds. To prepare a delicious meal we have provided a fully stocked kitchen with dishes, silverware, pots, pans, baking dishes, cooking utensils, blender, toaster, Keurig, and a drip coffee maker. The Downstairs level has a laundry room with washer and dryer, kitchen and dining area, bathroom with shower/tub, family room, bedroom, sitting area, covered porch with swing, central heating and air conditioning. Enjoy relaxing in the spacious family room offering hardwood floors, an electric fireplace, and a 65" flat screen TV. For your enjoyment we have also provided HDTV's, high speed internet, Netflix, DVD player, Wi-Fi, and a selection of movies and board games. Upstairs guests can rest in either the King or Queen bedroom which offers a spacious area to relax and unwind in a private setting. Both bedrooms feature luxurious bedding, flat screen TV's and walk-in closets. The downstairs bedroom offers (2) twin beds with a flat screen TV.A highlight of North Hawksbill house is the custom designed outdoor oasis, featuring a 6-person hot tub and lounging area including a fire pit, 6 chairs, gas grill, and privacy fence. As a guest of the North Hawksbill House we provide the following: All bed linens, bathroom towels, hand towels, washcloths, make-up washcloths, hot tub towels, toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent, hand soaps, hand sanitizer, coffee, creamer, sugar packets, shampoo, conditioner and bodywash. We also provide firewood and starters for the firepit. Centrally located in the Town of Luray guests have easy access to the Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, the Shenandoah River and several Wedding Venues. We are within walking distance from the brewery, movie theater, restaurants, seasonal live entertainment, and shopping. Bring your bikes or take a walk on the Luray Greenway which is only steps from North Hawksbill House.
