It is attached to the house, however, to access the bathroom, you must leave the log cabin and walk a few steps to the main house. The bathroom is just inside the door of the main house. Remove open food from refrigerator and freezer.History of Home:Our home is registered on the National Register of Historic Places. According to the Department of Interior, sections of the home are thought to have been built in 1788. The full-length front porch outlined by a dry stone wall is one of the unique characteristics of this home. Step back into history with the log cabin, stone chimney, wood beams & wood floors in the kitchen and underground quarters room. The modern Commissioner of the Revenue position was created in 1869 when VA Constitution was rewritten and VA was readmitted to the Union, following the Civil War. After two original cabin buildings were connected by additions in 1889, the home was registered with the newly reformed Commissioner of Revenue. In the 1900's, further additions were added. Unique build designs are evident, such as stairs to accommodate Victorian dresses with petticoats, and a staircase was added on the side for easier access to the upper level. Supposedly used as Headquarters for Colonel Mosby during the Civil War. Colonel John Mosby was a Confederate army cavalry battalion commander in the American Civil War. The NY Times Archives states in an article from The Baltimore American, how in 1864, the Colonel went into the home but was tricked by Corporal Simpson of the 21st New York Infantry Regiment, "leaving Col.
