The Queens Hotel Portsmouth

Arrived at the hotel asked at reception via the grand entrance where the step free entry point was. Down the side street. Well, a slight contrast to the main entry. Old doors open to a dingy service hall and lift to reception. Ok if you're a delivery worker but unappealing and dismal as a guest. It could be so much improved by new doors and some new decor to match the rest of the art deco theme. Room good standard though quirky separate bath and shower room. Traffic noisy as windows needed to be open due to hot weather.

The Queens Hotel has always had a special meaning for my wife and I. Stayed there on our wedding night in 1985. And went back every anniversary for a few years ( place did deteriorate but prices went up). Been back many times since, sometimes for dinner, sometimes just for drinks. Also for New Year’s Eve party. Love the place

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, it has a lovely atmosphere, the staff are friendly and very helpful and our room, a standard twin with sea view on the second floor, was spacious, beautifully appointed and quiet. We ate both nights in the restaurant and the food was delicious and again the staff were excellent, afterwards we enjoyed a coffee and nightcap in the bar which is a nice place to relax. The position of the hotel in Southsea is perfect and has its own car park. It is about a 20-25 minute walk to Gunwharf Quays or there is a bus stop right outside the hotel which will take you straight there or into town. The hoverport is only a 5-10 minute walk across Southsea Common which is directly in front of the hotel and the hovercraft takes only 10 minutes to cross over to the Isle of Wight where you can catch a bus to Osborne House just outside the hoverport in Ryde and it takes 25 minutes. I would recommend this hotel, it is quality accommodation and good value and would definitely stay there again when visiting Portsmouth.

Had a wonderful time here for our wedding anniversary.our room was wonderful and had a large balcony.we found all the staff to be very helpful.we had a lovely meal in the restaurant,the food is amazing and the portions are large.will definitely visit again.

The Queen's is a beautiful victorian building. We were there for my Son's wedding When I booked I was advised that our room would most likely be available a bit earlier as I explained I would need somewhere to change and do my hair ahead of the ceremony. The room wasn't available and wouldn't be ready until 3pm so told to use the ladies toilets, my timing was impeccable as soon I started to get ready the cleaner came in, so I was in the way of a lovely lady trying to do her job. The wedding was fabulous, the reception dinner was first class and the outside area was stunning. Our room was very small and very very stuffy however we did have a lovely sea view. Breakfast was somewhat odd and chaotic, hubby and I had full English but they forgot the eggs and my son's breakfast didn't turn up despite several reminders until we had all eaten ours. Having said all that Its truly a lovely old historic building and is full of character in a stunning location. However it's sadly a negative review due to the very poor customer service and chaotic restaurant.

Paid extra for a superior room but the room was very much bog standard, small and overlooking a side street. Was in a hurry to meet up with my group so didn’t say anything at the time. One person in our group hadn’t paid extra but was given an amazingly large room, sea views, the lot. I mentioned it when I checked out, saying I thought I should be given a refund. The receptionist just told me she’d pass on my feedback and turned to do something else. I expect better from a hotel that seems to think it’s a cut above the rest. Breakfast is nice but staff were completely overrun on the Sunday and waiting times were way too long.

Would like to thank the staff and wedding coordinator Lisa for a wonderful wedding reception for the new Mr and Mrs Ellcome. We had a room which was above a lot of music from another wedding reception. We asked to be moved to another room which the receptionist did without any problem. Had a very comfortable night's sleep. Fantastic breakfast this morning. Thank you so much

Amazing hotel and food,nice Seaview room which was very clean,upgraded our room so we could have a fridge,nothing too much trouble.stayed only the one night but would of happily stayed longer if possible.good size carpark and no problem parking.

Needed a hotel in Portsmouth before leaving for a Cruise, I did not want a cheap chain type stay and opted for this old classical hotel in the heart of Portsmouth overlooking Southsea. What a great hotel and a lovely place to stay, not sure why it is only rated 3 star, it could definatley go for 4 star. Very reasonably priced, clean and well kept. Hotel staff were absoulutely lovely and nothing was a bother. Very spacious rooms, even though I only got the standard double. We had a meal in the restaurant on the evening and food was delicous, great service and great wine! Breakfast was lovely, staff so quick and attenative. I visit Portsmouth quite often and I now will come back to The Queens Hotel from now on, so pleased I came across this fab hotel with great parking facilities too.
